2016 Olympic vote at a glance
The International Olympic Committee's voting process to select a host city for the 2016 Summer Olympics: WHERE: Copenhagen. WHEN: Friday. CANDIDATES: Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo. VOTING PROCESS: IOC members vote by secret ballot until one city receives a majority. The city receiving the fewest votes is eliminated after each round.

Curious as to where Litsters choose...

Rio.

Just think of the Beach vollyball venue and how dowdy those bikini style uniforms would look compared to the normal atire on Ipanema :p

Rio would be my choice too. I could hum along with "The Girl From Ipanema" and I do so love Brazilian Jazz..Gilberto, Sergio Mendes....sighs...back to my days of doing Jazz radio...

Hey! It's only political by association, no overtness at all, geez, I thought folks might have an interest in where the Olympics are to be held a mere six plus years away...oh, well...

Oh, definitely Rio! Carnival! Beautiful women. Gorgeous scenery. Balmy weather. Non-union labor and a willing work force. Perfect. ;)

Rio. For my own egoistic reasons. I'm a late morning/late night kind of person, and that would be in the perfect time zone for my viewing convenience.

I'm within driving distance of Chicago, so this would be a pretty big chance.

I couldn't care less about the Olympics themselves, but I'm close enough to Chicago it would be a boost to the local economy, and far enough away not to be inconvenienced, so I'll pick there.

I'd choose Rio too, despite the staggering crime rate, and I live in Chicago.

Chicago's a great city, but it really doesn't have anything other than size to recommend it. We don't have an impressive physical setting, and we just don't have that air of romance and history of a city like Rio or Madrid, or the frenetic center-of-the-world feeling of a Tokyo.

Chicago's grasping at the Olympics as a way of proving it's a world-class town. The other contenders don't have to prove that to anyone.

Besides, I don't want to have to be embarrassed by all those, "We're Number One!" American fans.

Chicago eats crap. Its the ghetto bunny capital of the world.

I would choose Chicago mainly because of the pre Olympics entertainment. The modern Olympics demands a huge building programme, lots of contracts to be let, lots of planning decisions to be made . The opportunities for graft are legion and because of the high profile of the event every politician will jostle for a place at the trough.

Given its history Chicago would surely back itself to out corrupt the IOC - a considerable task in itself I admit.:)

PS Doc, Tokyo is a very modern very friendly place but it doesn't have much else going for it, though Japan as a whole certainly does.

The voting is over. It's RIO.

This leaves only two questions-

1) Was is President Rock Star, Mrs. Rock Star or Oprah who turned the IOC off.

and

2) Does this say anything about the fabulous influence President Rock Star has on the international stage?

1. No. Chi was chanceless from the get go. IOC kumbaya politics said it kind of had to go to the next viable South American candidate, since Buenos Aires got robbed last time.

2. Jesus. Could Obama even sneeze without you finding some way to gargle in haterade over it? Serously. Everybody was there. It means jack shit.

The only REAL question it leaves is this: Will the beach volley tournament be Cobacabana style?

Out of a whole 15 votes, 7 predicted Rio, congratulations Litsters, always trust the people, they most often choose correctly.

Thank you...:rose:

Apparently, Chicago was the first of the four cities to be eliminated on the first vote, receiving 18 of the 94 who voted.

Not that it matters...but I found it an interesting fact.

I haven't voted but, PrezBO got is marching orders from Mayor Daley to get the Olympics for Chicago. A late night call was made to the White House (is that racist now that a black man is in office?) after PrezBO announced he would not be going to ... where ever the fuck he went (don't care...so I really don't know) ... to get there and get the Olympics in Chicago...he owed the Mayor and his hometown that much at least.

Oh...and it was all paid for by your tax dollars.

ETA: Bet Daley is pissed that Obama didn't get down on his knees and kiss enough ass.

A tad serious, a delegate was heard saying 'we can't give this to a war country' and if if you click my link in the post above, this is all down to pork-barrel politics that BO risked precious political capital to support an inherently corrupt bid that gave no credit to our country.

No other city would have got presidential support like corrupt Chicago.

Only if people don't pay attention and the Dems screw up the media spin. It's more expected these days for the leaders of countries to appear before the Olympic committee. And the rest of them did, so why not Obama, no matter if it was a Daley machine payback or not.

Whatever the reason the IOC chose Rio (and I've heard about six reasons) the real reason was because no South American country had ever hosted the Olympics.

Obama got his orders to "get the Olympics or else" from the crooked Chicago political machaine and stupidly exposed the chinks in his "Rock Star" image by being humiliated publicly. I'm sure when Obama deals with North Korea, iran and both sides of the Israeli conflict he will be laughted at.

Why? Because he showed up in Copenhagen, along with every other head of state that had a candidate for the Games? It means nothing. It bears no relevance to anything. Come on people, this haterade is so weak it's tragic.

Why cant we ever have Olympics in African or Amazon villages? Its not fair!

I know, right? It's so fucking sad, even though they're desperately trying to find something, anything.

I can come up with better insults in seconds when playing the dozens than this pathetic group comes up with.
