I'll add the Ep. 10 in with an edit to the title after the contest. Don't want any confusion about it being a chapter story when that designation is for the series, not chapters.

On another note: Anyone up for a first-read of the first two chapters of a swords and (minimal) sorcery story? I've been off the horse for a while, and I want to get some thoughts/opinions. It isn't for the contest, but I figured as long as I'm posting anyway...

Besides, having an insightful opinion on my Earth Day story did wonders for it. Otherwise, I'd be eligible to win in this contest

About 13k for both chapters. The sex is a little rough, though fully consentual. There's no lovemaking here -- they're fucking. I don't need nuts and bolts grammar type scanning ( though I won't turn down any offered ) I'm just looking for impressions -- knee-jerk reactions to the story, setting, characters, etc.

The more, the merrier.

The number of reads from the contest page is minimal, at best. Most of those are readers devoted to reading everything in the contest. It's maybe an increase of double what you'd get without it... which is double of next to nothing.

Once it's off the NEW page, it's dead. If it's on the NEW page today, it's dead anyway *laugh*

I almost wish they'd quit posting stories on Sunday. It's such a worthless waste if you accidently ( or stupidly ) fall into it.

I always try to submit on tuesday to get a friday or sat publishing. But even sometimes that gets a Sunday publishing.

Ive got a pitiful score hovering around 4.0. with 207 votes and too many reads it's embarrassing. My story is not resonating with people, I guess.

Mia, Generally, Humor stories get big hits the first few days then the votes and views fall off for a while. Later the will pick up again for a bit. During a contest they tend to languish in the middle of the pack. I have experience.

OK, I am SO relieved to hear that others aren't getting the triple digit votes either. I posted like 2nd or 3rd day and have a sum total of 63 votes right now. I was starting to think that I was just a really bad writer. My votes have given me a decent ratio but it certainly not as high as I'd like (is it ever for any writer? LOL). I have a bunch of views (almost 20,000) but very few comments. I don't think the readers realize how much we rely on them for commentary on how to improve our stories... Ok, that's enough complaining. )

I am willing to read a sword/sorcery story as well but I give fair warning, I'm a tough critic. I do both mechanics and character development. Up to you and I don't take it hard if you ignore every word I say. D

It's like this, Kami. There are 60 or more stories posted every fucking day. The number of regular readers is limited. There are, however, a lot of readers who never post and never vote on anything. That makes for a lot of reading and not that many readers who vote and comment. If you got 60+ votes you are doing just fine. Hang in there.

You're new and you're complaining about 60+ votes and 20k reads? Jesus Christ, man, I've been posting off and on for 3 years, and I barely have that many combined (less than half that on the latest). It doesn't mean a writer is good or bad (not even remotely related), but that not nearly enough people are reading/enjoying the story. Based on your initial following, I'd say you have a promising start here--keep at it.

I have managed to irritate a few people
It's a spanking fetish/incest/revenge/wimp/surprise ending peace which should not be fun for anybody.

My lowest score ever. but still not in competition with the truly bad. I guess too many loyal readers. Although I've already lost a few "Favorites".

3.69 - 106 votes - 5588 Reads - two blase comments.

It's slowly dropping - it was up to 3.85/3.74/3.70 (when I started writing this reply)

I guess the content wasn't enough to stink it up, I should have taken the easy route and messed with spelling, grammar, name changes, and illogic. I had a hard time writing this, I kept wanting to change things to be the way I wanted it, and had to fight myself the whole time. I may try this at the next contest I'm ineligible for, going with the bad writing/editing vs. bad content.

Yep, humor is a tough sell, especially in a contest. My experience is that 90% of the votes that do come in are a 1 or a 5. Most people either love them, or hate them. Doesn't seem to be much middle ground.

Mine's struggling to reach 4.0 at this point, with miserable read/vote totals. All my regular readers missed it because it came out on such a crap day, and because I've been inactive so long.

I normally have almost as many comments as I have votes right now

Some weird results.

My number of votes jumped from 106 to 158 since this afternoon, but according to the statistics, the Views stayed the same at 5588. Hmmmm

Is it that they update the votes as they happen, but only update the view infrequently? Just curious.
