Painful fun

Two months ago the trailer next to mine was rented out. The new renters have been having parties every weekend.

This means every Friday and Saturday my wife and I have been listening to the Thumpa Thumpa of their music along with the laughing and screaming of people drinking until around 0300 in the morning.

Our complaints to the renters or to the Property Manager have had no results. The Property Manager visiting them has had no effect.

This morning at the dark and early hour of 1100 I was outside cutting some lumber for the Book Case and they complained about the noise. The Police were called as was the Property Manager. This irritated me. The Property Manager and the police were irritated.

It is now after 2400 and the neighbors party is going full force. I can't hear the T.V. over their noise. If the party goes as it has in the past it won't end until well after 0300.

I have set my alarm for 0600. I will be up, awake and ready for action by 0700. The noise abatement laws stop at 0730.

Too bad for my new neighbors I have some 3x3 Steel Box Beams that just need to be cut into two foot lengths for disposal. Oh it's just too bad that I don't have a metal cutting blade for my Chop Saw. All I have is a cutting disc. (Not to mention Ear Plugs.)

I'm not sure what is going to be louder. The scream of the cutting disc going through the box beams or the screams of my hung over neighbors when they hear this at 0800.

It's going to be some painful fun for me either way.

Go Seacat! I've had that neighbour. I just moved out of the building from hell in a bad neighbourhood (the police won't come to the area for noise complaints). We have put up with years of noisy parties, random angry, drunken friends of people who've left, wandering street yellers and fighters, gunfire, loud, weird sexfiends beating each other with bed spring, a chronic noise arms race going on between a deaf neighbour and our own JBJ and a woman who plays the piano badly at inappropriate times. If the rental market didn't suck so bad where I live, I'd have snapped years ago and paraded up and down the street in the nude, bashing bin lids together and screaming obscenities. Good luck to you.

If you clamp the steel a bit lite you can get a nice harmonic that will crack teeth

Once moe I was up right at 0600. I was a bit grumpy because the party last night hadn't ended until 0430 this morning.

After a quick shower and some coffee I was out front getting just what was needed. I pulled out the Chop Saw, removed the cutting blade and replaced it with the cutting disc. The guy across the street saw me out there and came over to see what was going on. He too has been harrassed by my new neighbors and is a bit irritated by them. Whenh he heard my plans he started smiling as he left.

By 0730 I had everything set up out back of my place. (These new neighbors live in the trailer behind mine.) One Chop Saw on a stand made from Saw Horses and Plywood. Six eight foot long sections of scrap steel 3x3 Box Beam. I was ready but the time wasn't right.

You see our town has what are called noise abatement laws. This means you can't create noises over a certain level between certain hours. Doing so can result in you getting fined or arrested. In my town you can't hear the noise or music, your choice, more than 100 feet away from the source between the hours of 2100 and 0800. I went back inside and had another cup of coffee while grabbing my Ear Plugs. (Actually the Ear Muffs I use when shooting.)

At 0805 I walked out back to see several of my neighbors standing around grinning. Very carefully so as to not make undue noise I turned on the saw and placed the first beam in place. No need for clamps of any kind. My paws will work nicely thank you. Once the beam is in place and my Ear Plugs are ready I grab the saw and lower it until the cutting disc is in contact with the steel.

Oh man what a scream that produced. The entire beam was resonating and even seemingly increasing the scream of the cutting disc cutting into the steel. I wasn't in a hurry and it took over a minute to cut through the beam. Once the first cut was made I advanced the beam and started cutting again.

The renter came stumbling out of the trailer holding his head and yelling at me to stop. I motioned to him that I couldn't understand him over the noise of the saw and he went back inside. It actually took ten minutes for the police to show up and even they were flinching as I dropped the cutting disc onto the beam. Once I stopped cutting they talked with me and quickly acknowledged that I was well within my rights to be cutting the beams.

Somehow I don't think there will be any loud parties in the near future but if there are I still have a couple of beams that I can chop up.
