Top Stories

Hi,

I have a few stories that are rated well enough to be in the list of top stories. One should be in third or fourth place for the category and it is (and always has been) tagged to allow voting and comments.

However, none of my stories are showing in the top list and I've written to Literotica quite a few times to ask why they aren't showing. They have never replied to any of my messages, which is a tad annoying.

Does anyone know if they've changed the rules for how a story gets included in the top list? The stories only disappeared from the list when the site changed earlier this year.

Thanks for reading,

Mareus.

the top stories are the top stories because of the reader count and the votes.

Oh dear God, don't let the anonymous trolls find this thread. >_<

Yeah, it's quantity that counts when it comes to the top stories section - not just overall rating. That 5.0 isn't going to do you a bit of good if it's only averaged over a handful of votes. ;)

The vote totals necessary are a lot higher than they used to be ( 10 votes under the old system ) and vary according to category.

You can determine what the minimum vote total for your category is by scrolling through the list and looking at where each .01 score cuts off, and the next .01 starts.

For instance: Erotic Horror now has a cutoff of 60. Sci-Fi/Fantasy has a cutoff of 100. Incest/Taboo has a cutoff of 100.

( How on earth the cutoffs for two such low-readership categories as that are so close/equal to the cutoff for incest is beyond me )

That's only for the all time list. If the story went up in the last year or 30 days, you should see it in those lists. The threshold is only 10 for those (I think)

Marius' stories have all been up for a while. They do have good votes, some high enough to garner the All-time Top List ... it must be his vote numbers.

It's a bummer. The All-time list will rarely change, and consequently, for regular readers, it won't hold much appeal. Week, after week, after week, the same stories. And most of them (not all,) old. :(

But we've had this whole conversation recently. Sorry to beat on a dead horse.

Sometimes there is no reason for something to be excluded from a top list, but it is anyhow. As an example, I have a story in the BDSM category that has been posted for over two months, and its current score has stayed the same for a couple of days. It has a high enough vote total and score that it should be about number 15 in the list for the last year, but it is not there. I probably have others in the same situation, but I am not concerned enough to check on them.

Those lists are somewhat behind also. If the score of a story just became high enough to be included, it takes about six hours for that to happen.

Thanks for your replies. At least I now know it's a problem with the site. It's just a shame the people who run the site can't sort this out.

Regards,

Mareus.

I don't think it's a problem with the site, per se. They just changed the rules for top lists. I had a couple knocked off the all-time list because they didn't have the 100+ votes necessary for the category under the new rules.
