Taking a shot isn't exactly harmless venting, but it does seem fair to ask - at what point does someone cross over from "men are all assholes" to actual violence, and how can you tell if this is likely.

I'm not getting actual violence vibes from the OP, but I could be way off the mark.

The link I put up in post 145 might help, if you're interested. If you read that, and still wonder why I consider his anger justifiable, I'll try to explain.

I heard about the incident being referred to, but considering this guy has an obvious thing about race - go check some of his previous threads - I'd rather think he's a troll than that he actually believes all the shit he's spouting about whites being responsible for everything short of the Apocalypse.

This particular spouting of hate was apparently sparked by the undeniable fact that no matter how law-abiding, hard-working, brilliant, distinguished and accomplished a guy with dark skin might be, he's still not safe from the deleterious effects of racial profiling - even in his own fucking living room.

Not that this was news. It's just a particularly galling reminder.

Sure, the cops were (kinda) in the wrong to start with. Though I have to say, I think I'd be happy that my neighbors were concerned enough to call the police if they saw someone they didn't recognize trying to get into my house, even if I were the one doing it, and happy that the cops bothered responding. But, according to the reports I've read, Gates turned what should have been a minor inconvenience into something else altogether.

Explain to the police what happened. Show them your identification. Tell them you appreciate their efforts and apologize for the misunderstanding.

If you're standing around hollering things like, "It's because I'm black!" and being uncooperative, then you can expect them to make life difficult for you. It doesn't matter what color you are. If you act like an asshole, expect to be treated like one.

I get pulled over on a regular basis because I speed...a lot. But I have miraculously escaped with only one speeding ticket in my entire life. You know why? Because I'm nice to cops and try to be respectful to them and for their perceived authority.

I'm sure I would have way more tickets if I got out of the car and started shouting at the officer instead.

The police tend to be overworked and underpaid in a dangerous job. A little human decency goes a long way. Sure, a lot of them are asswipes, but, again, if you treat them badly, expect them to try to make things hard for you.

You don't fucking know me. I grew up as smart ,white trash in a well off community. I"m also female if you haven't noticed. I don't live in a bubble. I choose to live my life without bitching constantly how the world owes me something.

Although if you're representing how your race acts, you're doing a piss poor job of it. Be an example for black youths growing up. Teach them tolerance. Teach them they can be whatever they want to be. Don't teach them the same hate that you think the world is aiming at you.

Um, here's another perspective. I am a cop. And I get pulled over all the time by white male and white female colleagues from the police department.

Once they see it's me, they let me go. Those who don't know me, I flash my badge to. The ordinary black person doesn't have a shield to fall back on. I know about racism in law enforcement.

My sergeant, who's Irish, says the words "bitches and black sluts" more than the average porn star or gangsta rapper.
