Why is/was Obama insisting on an Aug. deadline

I am not the kind of person that hates Obama, but it is very clear he losing steam. His own party is split on the deal, and he knows this may not see the light of day.

I think there is a lot of space between "hating Obama" and wanting him to just stop what he's doing and/or go away.

I actually think the guy has a great sense of humor; he's entertaining as anything but, like I said before the election: the guy is unprepared for the nightmare of the job and he does not have the experience to deal with very powerful influences in politics and in the Congress. I said he would become the Congress' butt boy and that is essentially what is happening. He's got a tiger by the tail and has to keep spinning like a fool, lest the tiger devour him. As you say, he's running out of steam and realizes that if he goes any slower, the tiger will be able to get him. Within a year the guy is going to be 100% toxic and moderate Democrats facing reelection will shun the guy big time. That said, I'm sure I would much rather sit around and get drunk with Obama than McCain, Bush I, Bush II, Clinton 1.0, Clinton 1.4, Reagan, Ford, or Nixon. Carter I won't even discuss, as I'm sure spirits never cross His Holy lips, that fuck.

Obama is a great guy -- just not the right guy for the job.

N.B.: His own party is split three ways on the deal. The Blue dogs are dubious, mainstream Dems are for it, and the progressives want real single-payer.

Actually, politically speaking, he's been pretty smart to let Congress put things together and then insert himself in the process as needed. He avoided Clinton's big mistake already. This wasn't going to be easy to put together. There will be a lot of people that don't like it. But he's pretty damn close to passing something Clinton could only throw up his hands in despair about.

Of course he is going to try and put a fire under some butts, and I am jumping up and down for joy he is doing it. Really. Of course, some are not going to like it, and the longer it waits, the less chance it has of passing. Personally, it looks like a giant clusterfuck, but hey, I could be wrong.

Maybe I should have re-phrased it. "Hate Obama's policies". Yeah, that is different than the person. I do not know him as a person, and chances are, I will never meet him in person.

It was bound to look like a clusterfuck in Congress. Nothing surprising about that. It's too high profile with too many diverse ideas about what is best to do (or not do). It won't be pretty, but the blue dogs will be appeased and a bill will pass. It won't be everything the liberals want. The Republicans will curse it forever. But, as Senator Graham noted just this week with Sotomayor, there are consequences to winning/losing an election.

The majority does help, do not get me wrong on that, but the splits in his own party in my opinion may throw a monkey wrench in the program. Will they get a compromise? Maybe, but will it be to Obama's liking, or will it be political football until kingdom come?

Trouble is you put Pelosi in charge, she puts fellow radicals like Henry Waxman in a position of authority, you come up with radical proposals and legislation that appeals to them but portends to govern against the will of the American people and runs up against a brick wall. Both she and he are responsible for following the guidance of another group of radicals in the White House. Bottom line, when ideology gets in the way of practicality, failure isn't too far behind.

Pelosi won't be the author of this. Whatever ends up passing will be what gets hammered out in the Senate. They're negotiating a proposal now that is slowly but surely pulling in the blue dogs. They're making a good effort to make it appear to be bipartisan. You'll see a bill pass, even if it is after the recess.

It appears blue dogs are feeling the pressure from all sides...

There was an excellent article last week, I'll see if I can find it to link, that shows how the "Blue Dog" Democrats motivation for change was NOT the "will of the people" or the "conservative nature of the district they represent" but the fact that they are huge receipients of campaign donations from insurance companies interested in maintaining the status quo for as long as possible.

That could very well be the case.

Your genetically programmed racism prevents you from seeing Obama's logic when it comes to health care.....or anything else, really.

If he said two plus two equals four....your racism would MAKE you disagree.

Hey nigger, how's it hanging?

You really are an ignorant, racisit, piece of shit. You somehow believe that the color of a mans skin predicates his thought processes.

You have proclaimed here your superiority based on the color of your skin, the very definition of racism. Your very stance is an indication that you're inferior. Not because of the color of your skin (a declaration on your part) but due to the content of your character, which is weak at best.

But, what they've come up with is not radical. Not even compared to Clintoncare in '93.

Can you finally see, now? That's the difference between Samuelx and the Rev. Wright.

conservatives love to say how the government is slow and ineffecient but when someone tries to get something done quickly in government its a conspiracy and must be stopped. im sure if it was huckabee as president trying to pass some kinda whacky anti evolution bill in the same manner you wouldnt bat an eye

If they decided to reduce tax on businesses across the board to stimulate the economy and create jobs, I'd support quick enactment. However, when they do bonehead moves that are similar to the programs enacted during the 1930's recession that turned it into a depression, I'd recommend a different course of action and I hope that there's enough opposition to styfle it.

Pelosi wants to cancel recess and push the health care/Insurance or whatever it is bill through.
