Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to all.

I wrote a poem for my husband to honor the day, in memory of William.

So grateful to all the good fathers out there in the world.

Sorry but don't understand wishing everyone a blanket happy father's day! It only means something if it is coming from a child or someone whos treats you as a father figure...

I think that is an interesting, and maybe unfortunate, position to take, Siddey. My father died long ago, and I have not replaced him with another father figure - but I celebrate his memory and all of the good (and not so good) things he taught me, gave me, showed me, by wishing others a happy day. I remember, thank and celebrate all the fathers I know and have known who screwed up and then got up and tried again. I celebrate the fathers who gave up their dreams, or modified them, so their children could benefit. I celebrate the fathers who agonize over decisions in their marriages or their careers because they worry what effect it will have on their children. And I send good thoughts to those fathers who harbor regret.

Being a father is difficult, and being a good father, doing the right things well for even brief moments is even more difficult. But it's worth the effort, and I'm grateful to the fathers out there trying to do that very thing.

I'm not offering this as an argument, merely as the view of someone who has walked a different path.

If you are a father, you already understand it's a special day. It doesn't matter who says Happy Father's Day. It's more important that the day is recognized.

I think it's even nicer when a wife says it to her husband after they have had children together. After all, it is they who have made themselves into the mothers and the fathers. The child had nothing to do with it really.

So, Siddey, if you are a father, here is my personal wish that you have a Happy Father's Day. If you aren't a father, then shut up and go to your room until you can learn to respect a simple gesture by someone who only meant to be nice for once in her goddamn life, and close the door behind you, please. I don't want to hear you ranting and raving throughout this thread.

Hey, I appreciated the thought.

I suppose that if someone who doesn't know you now wishes you a happy birthday certain people will take exception.

"Happy Birthday? Did you just wish me a Happy Birthday? Who the fuck are you to wish me a Happy Birthday? You don't even know me."

Wow, some people need to take a chill pill and relax.

I am pleased to be recognized as a father on Father's Day. It's a job and a pleasure, in varying degrees, but it's one I signed up for when I proposed to The Babe.

Only if I start a thread tomorrow that says, "Happy Birthday to all of you who were born on this day in whatever year" would I be in trouble again for being nice.

I'm glad someone appreciated my sentiment, BFW, and a few others, as well.

I knew fathers out there would appreciate it, that's why I said it.

Now, that the day is almost done, I hope everyone had a happy one and collected some great presents to boot!

Does anyone want to share with the other aurthors what their gifts were?

Sin,

I spent the day with my wonderful children, that was the best gift of all! I've been Divorced for a couple years, and the time I get

with them is precious to me. I spend a lot of time with my Lit. family as well, thank you, your Fathers Day wishes were heart felt...

I feel very special to receive that from the people I feel closer to with each passing day... Thanks.. ;)

My daughter called, sent some presents and a card, and my grandson wished me happy grandfathers day. (I think that's what he said...heck he's four years old)

My wife and I went out to dinner. It was very cool.

Happy Fathers Day to all you dads out there. :D

Austin,
Thanks for sharing that. Kids are great and I think its absolutely wonderful that you keep in touch with them. My daughter's father chose not to do that for too long and today she won't even call him. Its been his lose and her hurt, unfortunately. I try to support both sides, mostly by staying neutral.

Tom, does the four-year-old grandson speak with a southern accent? Maybe that's why you can't understand him. If he's four, he should be texting you by now (lol).

I'm glad you had a great day.
