Yeah, of all people I am askng this question.

More than 20 years ago, I was desperately ill; to the point that I had actuaaly asked my father to assist me in suiside.

THAT night he sent out the word for a prayer circle to begin.

The next morning I was happy to be alive and thankful.

Right now, we need a prayer circle..or good thought circle...or whatever.

PLEASE....Focus all positive energy on SSS's husband.

If anyone knows his real name, PM it to me and I'll put it in the prayer list at church Sunday.

I personally don't believe in the power of prayer, but I DO believe in the power of positive thoughts. So if Mr. SSS wants to call it a prayer, fine... knock yourself out, dude. your getting them whatever you want to call them. ;)

Whether we call them prayers, positive thoughts or focused intentions, I do believe they have power.

He's added to mine. :rose:

I have to agree with that sentiment, and even if you don't believe in the power of prayer, would it hurt just to stop for a moment and concentrate your positive thoughts & direct them toward another person who needs them?

count me in, and I'll be spending some time with those who need it in my thoughts :rose:

Someone wanna fill me in, so I can send the right type of thoughts?

(knew there was a reason I came back today)

Someone answered a six month old thread without actually reading the text in it...

This is an old (June) thread.

Has something else happened to SSS's hubby I'm not aware of?

as an atheist I don't believe that praying to a superior entity will bring any devine intervention as an "answer". There's also a parodox in a christian god answering specific prayers with his "powers" by only answering prayers arbitrarily. With this the benevolent god theory goes right out the window as thousands of children in the world starve to death every year. Good "christian" people die of painful cancer or dibilatiting alzheimer's (like my grandmother), and other cruel diseases. Many believe in a christian god that gave man total free will without intervention though. So why pray?

I don't think prayer is a bad thing if you do it as a form of support and self affirmation. But doing it as a way to get results without doing anything to help achieve those results yourself is just absolutely feckless.

Things are fine. It shocked me a bit to see this thread, actually.

Truth be told, I think hubby is the healthiest one in the family right now.

I don't know if prayer works, but during both surgeries and the horrible week and a half he spent in the hospital I could feel the love and strength and good wishes from people here in the AH. It was my lifeline, especially all night long during that 14-hours I spent in the surgery waiting room. Is that prayer? I dunno.

There was something there.

:rose:

Oh Lord,
I thought he'd had a relapse when I saw this.
thank Heaven he's still OK.

Bless you both. :rose::kiss:

I think praying can have a calming influence, which helps most bad or tense situations--as as any "take a moment" would. So, in that sense I believe it would have power, yes.

Prayer is much more effective when combined with something like oxycodone.

I'm convinced people dont understand what prayer is or how it works. I say my prayers every night, and what I pray for almost always happens. The trick to it is formulating the prayer correctly. That is, you can garble your prayer as well as you can garble your speech. And what you ask for is subject to the laws of the universe, like everything else; some miracles happen instantly, and some take 5 business days.

only 5 days? Good as that ?

The only thing I ask the Lord to do is look after family, friends and some of the departed.

I posted above about my personal opinion on the viability of prayer without really seeing what or who the thread was about. I apologize. *hugs* to the sexy and sweet sarahh...
