By the way, the peak you see in the picture? We climbed it.

We got started late in the day, and we came down on the tail end with flashlights, but looking at a 1500-foot drop, and standing somewhere where you can see the country for hundreds of miles in any direction, there's just nothing like that.

I will heartily concur on this. It's one of the reasons I love climbing fire towers on mountaintops. ;)
Seeing what's all around, what's always been, that's truly a treasure.

This State is beautiful.

I don't think I could ever leave it, that's how much natural beauty is here.

If it became a communist collective, maybe then I would plant bombs under police cars, rather than leave.

People who don't live here really don't know. Japanese tourists visit Yosemite and think they have a clue. That's more or less a theme park now.

Once you strap on a pack, and head for the Ionian Basin, after that, you'll know how awesome Nature is.

My treks through nature took place in Maine. I miss it, too. California is where I was born, but it's been so long since I have been back. There is indeed beauty all around, though.

I probably will go again. Last time, the soles actually came off my boots. And they weren't even very old. I had to tie them back on with nylon cord that I'd actually brought for rigging tents. So I have to get some new boots. It's hard to get good equipment anymore.
