I don't think it's that simple. Few of us go through life alone - There are people who care about most of us. I think we have a moral duty to those people not to die doing something stupid. Of course, there's a continuum of risk and we all choose where in that our limits are. I ride a bicycle on the road, rock climb, build houses. These are all risky behaviors, and I approach them deliberately and cautiously. But auto-erotic strangulation takes the pursuit of happiness into the realm of selfishness. It was his life to do with as he chose. But that doesn't mean he chose well.
