Jumped the Shark?

I saw slyc_willie's post about Man Vs Wild jumping the shark...anyone else have a suggestion of a series (TV, film or even books) that jumped the shark at one point...or maybe never did?

Lessee . . . .

Freddy Vs. Jason. Oh, wait. Both those franchises jumped the shark after their third installments.

The Outland comic strip by Berke Breathed (and, by default, the follow-up Opus), begun when Breathed ended Bloom County. Bloom County, as far as I'm concerned, was the best satirical comic ever made.

Two Of A Kind, the spin-off of Three's Company.

Oh, and Brett Favre's career these last two seasons. I don't think he jumped the shark, though; I think the shark ate him.

Sad to say almost all adaptations of British TV shows into American versions jump the shark there and then. But I do have pleasant memories of Suzanne Somers (eek...that's about 30 years ago!!)

I prefer the original British versions myself . . . Fawlty Towers, Are You Being Served? Dr. Who, Red Dwarf . . . .

Supernatural had an episode this season(season 4) entitled Jump The Shark and it lived up to its name by being some preposterous shit. Then again, it's a series that doesn't take itself too seriously anyway.

Some shows are made to jump the shark every week, Nip/Tuck for example.

As for serious shows, I love House, but I think killing off Kutner was major shark jumpage. I used to watch ER religiously until the helicopter fell on Dr. Romano. I think there's a fine line between bad things happening to characters and outright crazycakes plot devices.

SCARLETT

I stopped watching HOUSE two seasons ago when he was sweet to a pretty blond patient. That's when he jumped the shark. Once they reveal whats really hid beneath their skirt, its over.

I've been pissed at Le Carre for 20 years. He stopped writing about George Smiley, his most cherished character. Smiley never jumped any shark.

Been sticking to House for sometime but the whole Kutner offs himself/House sees dead people sequence has been a bit hard to take.

And I dare anyone to say a HBO drama has ever jumped (Sopranos, Rome, True Blood, Six Feet Under)

There's a website somewhere devoted to series that the site's owner believed jumped the shark.

Same here regarding House. Yet, I'll continue to watch it because I love Hugh Laurie too much to stop!

Laurie is probably the first best reason for watching House, and to be honest the plot contrivances and other elements of the show stand way way back in the shadows. Okay, it may have its soap-opera aspects but he gives an un-f'ing-believable performance. And having seen a lot of him on British Tv since the mid 80s it's amazing how he has transformed himself as a performer.
