I encourage you to share yours also here, no guidelines, no specific topics, anything you want, feel free to share it, i do indeed love to read poetry.

this poem is about a struggle for addiction i faced for several years.

I was walking down that road again
Devoid of life and lacking friends
A lonely path, I’ve traveled long
And broken I could not continue on

Along that road another walked
Much stronger then I, and our eyes locked
And what I saw, it scared me so
Couldn’t break the gaze, couldn’t let it go

I stood, with all the strength I had
And next to her I trotted

She held me up, for I could not stand
With a gaze, and a kind and loving hand
I leaned on her and her on me
And together we fought so;
From the road we’d be free

The road grew trees
Then birds, then bees
And the sun came out
And all the fear, all the doubt
Was swept from my mind
With the passage of time

But I was a fool, and I caught on quick
That life was just pulling a twisted trick
The world went from green, back to the black
And I started to fall, far from the right track

And down I pulled her
Away with me
When she was so close to getting free

I dragged her with me
Back to that sea
Of endless pain and loss of dignity

She broke away
And further I fell
To where I don’t know,
But I believe it was hell

No matter what happened
I could not break free
Loss of control

No matter how hard I tried
No more could I find, in whom I could confide
And I feared that I’d slip
Till the bottom I’d hit
Or even before when my mind it would rip

Just the sick Fall of another Addict

and another, not dealing with addiction (i'm clean btw)

In a world of perfection
we'd be truely together
there'd be no problems with this connection
and we'd never fear the bad weather

In a world of absolution
you and me would rule free
no faked new years resolutions
just things how they were meant to be

in a world of happiness
you would never have to cry
i would sleep all night, and get some rest
and neither of us would die

in a world of conviction
you and me would be real
no long term restriction
nothing hiding how we feel

in a world of pain and coldness
you and me could keep warm
our affection would fight the loneliness
and at night we could get through the storm

in a world of loathing and fear
you and me would face hate
called names that they jeer
we would still have our fate

but in this world we share
there is no rules to follow
because even though we care
the feelings still feel hollow

Congratulations on getting clean! Monumental task, you should be proud. Thanks for sharing your poetry. I think people might be confused about the general theme of this thread-- I love that you like to read poetry, but that is what this whole forum is about :) Hopefully you browse around and find a place that fits here.

You might consider starting a thread on poetry about addiction. I know many people here have written on the subject and might respond better to a specific theme in a thread.

Good luck and welcome!

Here's a quick poem on the subject I have in another thread:
Twelve

A dozen drinks doesn’t do it
dazed descent into drunkenness no delight
Deepening darkness demands daily diligence.
Drink and die, drink or die dilemma.
A dozen steps, done one by one,
develop deliverance from demons.
What would one wee wine do?
Would it work witty wonders or wash wisdom away?
Do I dare despair or devote today duly to duty?

Cigarettes remain an ongoing addiction.
