I just spent the whole morning on the telephone with the IRS. Somehow they didn't get or don't have or lost my 2003 income tax return. Soooo, many moves later and I could not locate my old paperwork.

So, I had to call the IRS's customer service center and sit on hold. Then I got to speak to a representative who informed me that she was not in that department, the one that can send me copies of my 2003 W-2 Income statement. So she transfers me which is very helpful. I spend even more time on hold. The IRS plays some bit of classical music for background music but it's a short loop and repeats incessantly. I finally get through but once again, I need some records archival department so transferred and put on hold once again.

During this time I put my phone on speaker and have proceeded to tear through two file boxes and a filing cabinet full of paperwork.

I found an original copy of my first ever top secret security clearance from 1994 but not a single tax document. Not for any year, they are all missing.

Finally I get through to the department I need and they are going to snail mail me my 2003 income statement. They have already mailed and I've already gotten all of the federal tax forms I'll need for 2003 and the W-2 was supposed to be in there but wasn't. *grrrrrrrrrrrr* :(

There is a bit of a hurry here because the IRS is holding my 3,500 dollar refund from 2008 hostage until I file the 2003 return.. they say it's in case I end up owing. They have all the paperwork I need, they could have done my 2003 taxes fifty times in the time I was on hold and just filed em for me.

Now, I'll also have to refile my Colorado income tax for 2003 because the federal IRS will electronically update all states with my updated 2003 info. I'm already having to refile my 2004 New Mexico return because they did that.. I had to file an amended return for 2004 for federal from when I lived in Colorado and New Mexico decided to tax me for income I earned before I even moved here!

In a twist of fate, it's up to me to prove that I didn't live here for half of 2004. Have you ever tried to prove that you didn't live somewhere? Easier said than done.

The only bright note here is that I'll get a refund from 2003, fuck you tax man!

I'm sorry...the IRS can be such a pain in the ass sometimes, huh? I know exactly what it's like to feel frustrated with them, 'cause we're going through some IRS trouble ourselves.

Someone has taken Mister's SS# and actually had the balls to file taxes with his number this year. Mister WORKS FOR A TAX REFUND COMPANY!!!

They're holding our refund (which is a substantial amount of money that we NEED because we were going to use it to buy baby furniture like a bassinet, crib, and car seat) until Mister can prove that he's the real Mister and not the other guy.

*facepalm*

Wow... that has to suck, trying to prove that you are who you are. I guess you have to get all your identification and birth certificate and physically show up at an IRS service center for that kind of thing.

Of course, you don't need any I.D. to vote!

I don't really know what he needs to do to prove his identity. I should ask him when he gets home from work. That's probably it, though, him showing up with a Birth Certificate and maybe his SS card.

He has a military ID too, so that might help. I mean, they have his prints on file. He was in the Coast Guard.

I just think it's hilariously ironic that he works for a tax refund company and someone took his SS# to file taxes.:D

As a side note, how long did it take you in '94 to get TS clearance? I heard it's a minimum of something like 6 months but it can sometimes take up to 3 years.

It took about a year, maybe a little more. I've heard that with the new security in place that the backlog is massive!

Don't even get me started on government stuff.

While I was claiming job seekers allowance (the pitance the government give you while looking for a new job here) I received a letter saying that there was a dispute over the way I lost my job which affected my claim and it was being investigated (I asked and the only way there could be a dispute is if my former employer told them that I wasn't sacked, I quit, which I didn't). The letter said any questions, call the main job centre office in Nottingham, so I tried this. I tried it several times a day for 5 WHOLE WEEKS and I could NOT get through to speak to anyone at all. so I spoke to my local job centre when I signed on and they told me there was nothing on my file on the computer, so not to worry about it at all as if there had really been a problem, my payments would have been stopped til it was resolved.

I got my job, then 2 days ago I got all my tax paperwork through from my JSA and a letter from the job centre about the dispute and stating that it still wasn't resolved and that any further claim for JSA may be affected by it.

For the love of god, really?
