I got a B in Typing. Took it for an easy elective credit and to look at the girls there and it turned out to be one of the top three classes I ever took for myself in high school. Knowing how to use a typewriter/keyboard professionally compliments your reading/writing skills and will get you work, anytime, anywhere.

I was a piano player, and I took typing thinking it would be an easy credit.

It was! Cute girls, easy class.

For easy girls in a cute class, I had to wait for college poetry.

I took typing because of the girls. It was one of the most valuable courses in high school.

A few years ago I served on a professional advisory board for the state vo-tech system. We were asked what courses should skills we wanted to see in entry level employees. I said take your old typing class and create a first semester course named "keyboard skills" and make it manditory. Make sure every student could type with all ten fingers.

They took the suggestion and named the class "Computer Literacy"

I took home economics in High School because I was one of the only (straight) guys in a class full of girls. I learned to cook and got a lot of dates. Win-win.

I still don't touch type, although I can keep up a pretty good pace using 3-4 fingers on each hand thanks to 25 years of practice. I tried Mavis Beacon but the repetitive exercises bored me to tears and I gave it up.
