New Story Reviews (volunteers welcome!)

My first submission

I'm not sure if this is the place to post this question or not, but I will anyway, and apologize if I'm wrong. LOL. Anyway, I was wondering if one of the reviewers, or anyone else for that matter, would read my newly approved story, the first one I've ever submitted anywhere, and please let me know what you think of it. It has erotic undertones, but in and of itself, it's non-sexual. I do plan on taking the story further, but I am kind of stuck with writer's block, as well as a busy home life. LOL. Any help and critique's would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks alot :)

This is a weird question. I have a few non-erotic stories published i very small literary journals. Imagine yourself stuck in your senior class at university, about to graduate with no career direction. Well, I thought it would be nice to earn a little money by writing. I did find a job on snailsreviews, which is about eroticism and lots more. I've already written several dozen reviews and I wonder if you guys would recommend me continuing my affiliation with snailsreviews (dot com). In short, do you recommend this kind of a job for would-be authors?

Hi there. I'd offer to read it, but I've not got a lot of free time at the moment. However you could consider starting a thread in the Story Feedback forum and giving a link in that thread to the story. Ask the folks on that forum to read your story and post their comments on the thread for you to read and take into consideration.

Not able to offer you any recommendations as far as your future in writing, but if you would like answers to your questions then perhaps start a thread on the Author's Hangout forum. This is the Story Review thread. Good luck with your future in writing.

This is my first review, so don't laugh at me.

It’s been awhile since anyone took the bull by the horns, so to speak, and revived this thread, so I thought I would take a crack at it. If I can do it, anyone can, so join in.

And remember, to comment on this, or any other review, go to this link: Comments/Suggestions on the New Story Review Thread

I clicked on a little story, out today, called Music in my Mind by rocker_wife. It can be found in the Romance cat, although it would also fit well in Erotic Couplings.

It’s the story of two hikers who chance to meet, quite by “accident”, on three different occasions along a local trail. The third time’s the charm, as they say. Our narrator, the female half of the equation, is hoping that her companion will be there that day and he doesn’t disappoint. We soon discover that he harbors the same hope about her. What ensues is… well, I don’t want to spoil it for anyone.

I’m not normally drawn to a story done in the first person, but this one captured me. It’s beautifully written, though a bit flowery at times. The author tends to tell, more than show, what’s happening, but the effect works. There could be more dialogue, but again, it works. There’s a feeling of joyousness and child-like abandon throughout that transports the reader to that hot summer trail along the river bank. In my very humble opinion, this author has promise. Music in my Mind gets a five from me.

Well done, rocker_wife. I hope to see more from you in the future.

Ty for taking the time to review

I found your feedback relevant, and I especially enjoyed reading a couple of your stories for examples regarding character development through dialogue, which is a strong point in your writing. I look forward to reading the rest of your work.

Any takers? Viable reviews are a fabulous thing to an aspiring writer. Perhaps, with all the new members, it's time to think about doing this once more.

I would be willing to start this again. I can either do it on a Wedn. or a Sat. Both are my days off, and i have free time and the computer to me the whole day.

I'm not the most reliable person when it comes to this sort of thing... that's mostly what's keeping me from signing up. Can I have a guest spot or something?

I don't see why not. It's not like this is a salaried position or anything. ;)

Brilliant. :) I realized I need to get reading more again, and if we really manage to get this thread off the ground again I think it'll really help me out.

Right, I'm finding something to review.

Ya wanna alternate weeks like in the poetry forum reviews/recommendations? That way we have each other to cover our backs if we can't do a review for some reason (like catching leprosy or if alien attacks and stuff...)

Love to see the reviews revived, and I might participate every so often. Can't commit to a day, though. I never know when I'll have enough motivation to get off the couch, let along read or write.

I'd love to participate in this once in awhile. I can't give a solid timeframe, but I can do it at least once a week.

Sounds like a plan. I just really hope I can stick to any kind of schedule on this.

Just a few things:

1. Go here for formats and rules and such.

2. All commentary regarding reviews should be done on this thread. The "New Story Reviews" thread should be used for reviews only. As I recall, each review in the past would include this information and link for said commentary. Cuts down on traffic here so as not to detract from the actual reviews.

3. Post in the feedback board of the story that it has been reviewed and include a link to this thread.

I believe that's everything. If anyone else thinks of anything, feel free to add.

All reviews done by women must be done in the nude (verified by pictures sent to me????)

I think JBJ is volunteering on another thread.

Someone with real desire needs to volunteer because I'm sure that everyone will get sick of my doing it all the time. Where is Daniellekitten when we need her?
