I've had to face the bitter truth.

I've debated posting this for some time, but after this last episode of utter frustration, with continued damage to my self-esteem, I've decided that the time is now.

I want you know that I've done my best. I've tried an incredible number of different strategies. I've tried to scan carefully, to not overlook the obvious, to take a rational approach, although that becomes more difficult the longer it goes on and I become increasingly tired and exasperated. Sometimes I find myself swearing.

I've tried to tell myself that it doesn't matter; that there have to be loads of people in similar situations. I've walked away time and again, determined never to come back, only to once more find myself doing battle, sometimes in the middle of a sleepless night.

So, I've finally had to face the truth.

I absolutely suck at electronic mahjong.

:D

In case you've never wandered to the very bottom of the Stories Index page, there's a "Naughty Flash Games" link that take you to such things as strip poker and blackjack, jigsaw puzzles that reveal scantily clad ladies, and more. My particular nemesis is mahjong. I've beaten that damned game exactly twice, and I don't even care to think how many times I've tried.

To be fair to myself, my wife (who's phenomenal at such things) tells me that most electronic versions have an "Undo" or "Back" button to help you save yourself from a stupid move. This version doesn't.

But still--TWICE?

I admit it--I suck at this.

What do you suck at doing?

How awful for you.

My handwriting sucks. Sometimes I can't read what I've written.

I deeply understand your frustration. For me the black beastie is electronic mancala... Still haven't managed to beat the computer once...

oh, I'm so sorry... the first step is admitting it... you are on the road to recovery... let's try to get you some help. ;)

do you try to play when you are too tired? haven't had enough caffeine and are not sufficiently awake? trying to multi-task and not giving it your undivided attention? have you tried talking to a gamer to help you at all?

all serious questions... :)

My handwriting sucks. Sometimes I can't read what I've written.

oh my! good thing for you there is the typewritten word...

hmmm... I suck at caring for live plants and I'm a florist. It's a deep dark secret that I have only one plant in my house... shhhh... :(

I suck at handwriting too. I almost failed out of high school, then excelled in college and it took a long time to figure out that much of it was not being forced to write my homework with a pencil. I type about 90 wpm, so can breeze through a 40,000 word story in less time than it took me to do a 10 page book report (and with far less cramping). Kids have it lucky these days. My nephew actually had to submit most of his homework for one class via the internet (all reports done on Word). The teacher wouldn't even accept hand-written assignments.

I can't hit a bull in the ass with a bass fiddle when it comes to darts. I've had my 8yo nephew whip my butt in every game...and his sis and bro too. :( I throw too hard or too soft or something. It really pisses me off. Then I crush them in air hockey. ;)

My handwriting is now God-awful for two reasons; one, I spent twenty years scribbling frantically on a pad of paper on my lap doing mental health intakes and substance abuse evals, and two, arthritis. Holding a pen or a pencil for any length of time (a minute or more) is progressively painful.

I tried a 12-Step program for gaming addicts once... walked off a pier...

I'd say my handwriting sucks, too. But along with that, some board games are a challenge for me: Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit (several different versions except Silver Screen) and Yahtzee (although is that a "board" game?) are my worst. No matter what I do, even if I'm winning, I eventually end up losing the game.

Yes, it's been a blessing, but takes something away from the intimacy of the handwritten letter.

I won't tell!

I resemble that remark :D

I suck at handwriting too. ...

In grad school, a professor returned an essay test to me and said, "I can't read a word of it, but I know you know the material." I got an A. :)

You've gotta stop playing the "Strip" versions of those games... I think you're conflicted. :D

I suck at a lot of things, But the worst anymore is remembering things. M Mother who is in her mid 80's has a better memory than I do at 50. The other day For the life of me I could not remember my phone number. even when it was told to me.

Might want to get that looked at. Don't wait until you start losing vocabulary!

If I can be serious on your thread for a moment, I think there's a real problem in our educational system. I have taught guitar for 15 years now, and have made a study of proper technique. Something I noticed about my own daughter's handwriting is that she has very poor technique in regards to the way she holds a pencil, but her teacher told her it's fine (much like some guitar teachers will tell students any way they want to hold it is fine as well). There are actually ergonomic principles that need to be obeyed, or some people will suffer. Some (like me) have a predisposition to joint pain, so doing anything (playing, writing, typing, running, etc....) with bad technique quickly causes debilitating pain. With me, I had to take an entire year off of playing because of tendinitis in my hand (that never returned after I corrected the flaws in my style).

For something that's so important in your life (writing), I think a lot of teachers pay very little attention to how the students do it, as long as they can make out the results.

Oh, great! I didn't even know we had games here. There goes more hours wasted ... spent ... here. Curse you, Gnome!

On the other hand, I have really good handwriting. :cattail:

I suck at being serious.

Seriously...

I mean it...

No kidding...

Honest...

Really...

Mahjong is my bitch. :p

I've got the deluxe version with over a hundred tile sets. Beat just about all of them, and the ones I haven't beat I haven't gotten to, yet.

Okay, I'm bragging.

I suck at the big things, which really sucks. In that, I mean I suck at realizing when I've done or said something really stupid or infantile that pisses off the SO until after I've done it.

Oh, and handwriting. I insisted on writing in all caps starting around the fifth grade. I refused to learn cursive. To this day, I have a hard time differentiating between upper and lower case in my handwriting. I just make some letters bigger when appropriate. ;)
