Café del Mar is a bar located in San Antonio, Ibiza, just to the west of the West End. It is a popular summer tourist destination, noted for its view of the local sunset. Café del Mar is the original Ibizan "sunset bar", opened by Ramón Guiral, Carlos Andrea, and José Les in 1978.
The Café del Mar releases compilation albums with tracks selected by the bar's own DJs. The music selection is intended to induce the mood that is experienced watching a sunset. The tracks are described as ambient, easy listening music. The bar originally sold their own tapes of the music but a series of Café del Mar CDs have been sold. As of 2008, there are 15 volumes, numerous side compilations, plus 2 albums commemorating the 20th and 25th Anniversary. A total of about 9 million albums have been sold worldwide.

Ibiza (Catalan: Eivissa) is an island and town located in the Mediterranean Sea about 80 km off the coast of Spain. It is the third largest of the Balearic Islands autonomous community (Spain). With Formentera, it is one of the two Pine Islands or Pityuses. Its largest cities are Ibiza Town (Catalan:Vila d'Eivissa or simply Vila), Santa Eulària des Riu and Sant Antoni de Portmany.

For me Ibiza was a powerful influence on my life as a child and then into my teenage years and on to the present time. My family has a villa on the west coast (sunset coast) of the island. Today that holiday home is now a place where tourists can stay. Since then, my family have bought other smaller villas and holiday apartments and turned part of an ailing business on the island into a more profitable business with various tourists and business people using and leasing the properties. There are more run-down properties in regeneration, with future effect of replacing hotels that are poorly run by their owners.
The music of Café Del Mar has also influenced the kind of music I love and inspired me to write, dance to, chill and play. Today the Café Del Mar is still a popular influence to many people of my age group and has made Ibiza a centre of attraction for that influence in dance music and ambient jazz.
