I was tricked into this. It has been a wonderfully enlightning 2 days. Most all of it spent with my best friend, his family, and the type people I rarely encounter in daily life.

We spent Saturday night at an abandoned victorian style way station. My friend is buying it with an ambitous plan to make it 100% self-sustaining in all respects: recycled water, solar energy, integration of old and recycled machinery, gardening, pasture land, animals, etc.

The oddest thing outside of the thread topic, was that this place is virtually in the middle of nowhere; the people I met were all on their day off or retired. One person flew in on a helicopter (he piloted it alone). Some were not expecting others to be there.

My friend had orchestrated this perfectly. Every person there had a special talent or method of thinking he was lacking in. His goal is to experiment and blend all of this together. Selling ideas, inventions, and practical application to large corporations and/or towns and communities.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS?

I don't see strong demand for animals or pasture land from corporations. Then again your threads usually make more sense after a hit or three.

I first thought my friend was off his fucking rocker! He wants the land for large gardening, a greenhouse, and an equestrian of sorts. Among other things.

An old carriage house/huge stable has already been converted to solar energy and drawing water from a well. Soon the water will be coming from an old functional water tower placed there in the 50s before the place was abandoned.

Being there was like going back in time. He wants that appearance to remain that way as much as possible.

Sounds like an adventure..

but would you want to live there?

Not really. No drive-thrus, late night restaurants, Home Depots, ball games, strip clubs, etc...

But I have to admit, it is a sweet pretty little place with a lot of potential. Perfect raw environment for a select few who want to change the world.

How did this all play out?

I was searching for a recycling thread which I would recycle and stumbled across this one, if you're wondering why this thing was bumped.

Damn! Old thread. Way before my time.

I think more power to the guy. Hope it works out for him.

BTW, after nearly three years, you wouldn't happen to have an update, would you?
