Your favorite brand of rum?

Black Heart. Best served over a handful of crushed ice, in an illegal shebeen, while standing next to a hot girl who wants to show you the wild side of town.

So are we gonna make a scotch thread or just take over this one?

Macallan Cask Strength. Glenmorangie. Glenlivet. Something from Islay if I want a peaty taste. Laphfroiag for example.

And I drink it on ice with a bit of water. No soda. No mixing. On some occasions I will drink it neat... just depends.

For mixing, a blend is fine. Dewars or Walker Black. I have never had the Walker Blue, but I like the Green just fine. But drinking a blended scotch is a different experience. Blends are supposed to conform. Single malts are about individuality.

But my single malt habit was a casualty of prioritizing income the last couple years. I'll get back to it after I hit the NYT list.

So, what'r ye waitin' for? Go buy one of my books!

I'm glad to see all of you guys coming out of the closet and talking about "tasting Petey" (good to see more Bi dudes joining the discussion, BTW), but the subject of this thread is RUM!

It all depends. My new favored drink is Tatoo and Coke (the Mexican variety made with Cane Sugar) that if mixed right tastes like a Vanilla Coke from back in the day (the Fifties). I like Havana Club (Cuban not the imposter) in my Mojitos made by my Cuban barkeep and friend (who loves me and wants me to be happy - or maybe just very tipsy). The Cubans also feed me Cuban sandwiches and tell me about how many Mojitos Hemingway drank at their bar in Havana each day, normally retiring with a lovely lady and not writing a damned thing!

I don't know if they still make it, but Bacardi used to have a vanilla rum called Nassau Royale. If you mixed it with Coke you didn't even realize you were drinking alcohol until fell down. A friend of mine split a fifth at a Christmas party years ago and felt nothing for a long time. No buzz at all. I walked down some stairs and as soon as my feet hit the floor the room spun in a big loop. So I switched to beer after a brief pause. No problem. However, my friend got fired later that week because he called his boss a cocksucker for giving a much smaller Christmas bonus than expected. I can't help thinking that maybe that had something to do with drinking that half bottle of rum.

Usually I drink Captain Morgans and Coke. I have found that Captain Morgans Select is actually much much smoother. Its actually better if you shoot it then chase with a Coke. I highly recommend it.
I also like Appletons rum... it tastes quite good for cheap rum.
