No, it's not going to be a fringe group bro. If history has taught us anything it's taught us that in times of economic collapse it is the more powerful, more populous, nations that make the move. That does not rule out the possibility that a smaller nation might be the catalyst. But I don't think it would be the likes of N. Korea. The Chinese want to see fearless leader gone just as badly as anyone else. Actually, they wouldn't mind at all if S. Korea took over the whole peninsula.

I'm thinking that Pakistan-India has all sorts of possibilities.

You have some points. Social upheavel in the US, up to and including an armed insurrection, isn't going to directly precipitate a wider world conflict directly. Indirectly it would by immediately leaving a power vacumn.

Food is a BIG problem, but again only as it relates to the world in general. A disruption in grain from the US 'bread basket' would certainly have the barbarians on the move.
