I wouldn’t ask Queen eXcessica for the time of day. She’d tell me it’s 2:07 a.m.

So Ace, I figured it both ways. Let’s take one of your print books on Amazon.com published via CreateSpace.

The list price on your book Cruising Through History is $19.99. If you’re Pro Plan (I mean, who isn’t a “pro” if you’re not, at mostly everything), you are making a little over $8.00 per book sold the way I figure it. Wow! And who said erotica POD wasn’t profitable? Although, as you have stated numerous times, all your profits go to the queen.

I suspect that the mere posting of this info will boost your sales. I mean, the book is short stories about the history of the sexual pursuit of man by man, correct? Once scouries and BFW have purchased and read your book, I anticipate quite the enlightening discussion between the three of you.

So is this book self-published POD?

Got to give you points for being fixated and not reading the answers you ask for.

First, you have three questions on your plate you need to answer yourself before getting answers to any more questions.

l'll respond to these, though, because you've been given answers to these questions--multiple times--and just haven't absorbed them.

1. I don't fool with any accounting from my erotica books at eXcessica. You'll have to ask Selena.

2. My supposition, though, is that there is very little profit to the publisher/author from a POD book on Amazon.com through CreateSpace once CreateSpace and Amazon.com have taken their fees. And beyond that, almost no one orders such books in print from Amazon.com. (Which, if you'd read back far enough, you will have found that I argued with Selena and some of the other eXcessica authors about. Trying to sell print books this way only detracts from profit that could be made from the same buyer from an e-book distributor, I believe.)

3. Thirty-eighth time: the profit in erotica is in e-booking, because that's where the target paying audience is.

4. To the "is this book self-published too" question, which I assume is directed at my Cruising Through History print book at Amazon.com. No, and you've gotten this answer before--you just don't like the answer. No, none of my erotica is self-published--the publisher selected it for publication, I didn't spend a dime on getting it published, I don't have to handle any aspect of distribution--all of this is unlike your vanity self-published book that only you decided it had to be in print, only you had to figure out how to pay to put it in print, and you are personally responsible for getting it sold and distributed. (That now makes at least three times you asked this question and gotten the same answer.)

I hope you aren't hot on getting an answer. If you throw more than a ccouple of words at her, she gets very confused. So how are you doing, Miss Sheri?

Doing good, Dani. Having fun watching the circus. Just refilled my popcorn, too. How are things with you?

And no, I don't expect an answer quickly. Butch will have to think of an ever-so-witty reply and another weak, lame insult before s/he/it can answer me.

What part of $8 profit per every book sold don't you understand?

You know, on your Cruising Through History historical but fictional episodic epic on man fucking man.

Tell him, Queen eXcessica. Well, I could be mistaken. It's not like math is my strong suit. I previously reported that scouries and BFW could go 6 times in one night. They claim it was 7.

More questions for serena :p re e-publishing

I went to fictionwise yesterday. I’d never even heard of it before your and ace’s posts. QUESTION: Do these sites accept the complete eXcessica book list or do they only accept certain ones?

Who the heck is buying all these wolf/wulf erotic stories anyway? All their top erotic best sellers seem to be scifi/vampire/fantasy/animal (especially wolf) stuff. You have to wonder what the demographics of the fictionwise site audience are.

The other site, Allromanceebooks, seems to be giving books away free. All the erotic bestsellers I could find had a price listed of $0.00. QUESTION: What gives?

ace  posted that “most of the sales are not from the eXcessica site, they are from … megadistribution sites”. QUESTION: What percent do you guys do direct and what percent go through the mega sites? Do they give you the names of people who buy through them?

To my question of “Who prints your books?” you answered: CreateSpace: They are affiliated with Amazon.com, so our books are automatically listed there. They also provide ISBN numbers, which most POD (print on demand) sites don't do. ISBN numbers can be very expensive, and are required for print, but not for ebooks.

QUESTION: How much does CreateSpace charge for one of these ISBN’s? How much do they charge to print and send out the manuscript?

Some observations on your site: I googled (actually I used yahoo search) “erotic stories”, “erotic fiction” etc. and for some reason “excessica” doesn’t seem to come up. Closest I came was an eXtasy books but that appears to be only gay books. You should do something to get your name to show up more often when people do searches.

I also noticed you don't even use the word "erotic" on your home page. Nor "sexy".

It also don’t seem possible to be able to join eXcessica – QUESTION: do you have a “readers/buyers” club of some sort? The only thing I could find on your home page (and it took me a while) was something that directed me to some yahoo group. It seemed complicated – you should try to entice every person who visits your site to leave you their e-mail address. Right on the top of the page! Give everyone who joins a 10% discount on purchases.

Re the CONTACT page – Starting this page with the line “Sorry, but eBooks aren’t returnable. All sales are final” is not a good marketing ploy. Warmly welcome the customer before you even suggest anyone would want to return a book they bought from you. And if they don't like it and want to return it offer them full credits for future buys.

I also believe the site should charge authors something – not to earn a profit but instead to accumulate funds that could be used to improve the site and/or to advertise the site. Perhaps 5%.

And finally, QUESTION: why doesn’t your lovely sis  have more stories up on your site?

I’m james r scouries and I believe in eXcess…

That part about you pulling that number out of your ass. :D

I would have pulled it out of your ass, but it's too full with something else.

Well, I'm sure Queen eXcessica will be along soon to tell everybody exactly how much you are making on every print book, if you weren't giving it all to her. Unless it's Top Extra Secret, like your clearance.

For the thirty-ninth time, why would profit on a print book have any significance to anyone? The market for erotica is in e-books.

You are really soooo dense. :D

Did you know that you spelled so incorrectly? Were you trying to make a point with that incorrect spelling? I can see that it would have been difficult to put a hyphen in a two-letter word, so you just added a couple of extra letters to drag out the point. Nice touch.

The good thing about today, SR71plt, is that I'm in a much better mood today after my minor surgery that I had yesterday. Wasn't really surgery, more like a biopsy of a very private part. Hurt like hell, just the same, as I'm sure yours did, too. I'm just having fun with you and it was sooooo easy to get your goat. I can see you like a good fight. Toro!

I would like the goat back, please. He's our butler.

Yep. Bsergi1.

You named the goat Yep? Weird name for a goat. I would have thought Nah would have been more fitting for his personality. But, Yep certainly is a more positive name. Does he have a last name? Somebody might want to send him a postcard wishing he was with them instead of me.

Nope, we named him Bsergi1. (And, I know, you saw that coming--in fact set it up--and I saw you see that coming--in fact, set it up). :)

But I'm not sure you should be here, being a pet lover and all that. They have rules against bestiality here.

They say when you name an animal after a person, you think very highly of them and bring them up to your human level of existance. Look at that! I already think soooo much more of you already.

I would squash a bug, but never hurt an animal. I can only assume you would be the same way. I am honored by naming your goat after me. Perhaps no one else will get him tonight--if you're lucky.

Oh, that's what "they" say, is it? How uninteresting (or is that "un-interesting"?).

Hey, this is your chat room. You can spell it any way you want to--if you're trying to make a point.

Naw, this is Scourie's thread--as he no doubt will come along soon and tell you.

SR71plt, Do you think it would be better if the word was uninteresting, or do you think it should be not interesting?

I don't think you can just put an un in front of every word and have it be a real word.

Since Scouries World is for scholars, maybe someone who is a scholar can shed some light on that. I'm being serious, just for a moment. I'll get back to the goat sheering later.

What I think is that you're pretty boring. ;)

You're certainly trying hard to sound like Sarahh now.

So, maybe you are not the educator that I thought you were. I really had you pegged for an English teacher. I'm wrong, again, but I'm going to leave you alone to play with your little buddies, now. Have fun!

Thanks, that would be best. You demonstrate much too limited to be playing this game.

Well Jim, even though you suck, as do all Panthers fans and their team, at least tonite, I'll see if I can answer some of your questions.

CreateSpace is a relatively new phenomena and further effort by Amazon to dominate the market for printed books. It is intended for people just like you to get your printed book published, and made available for sale at Amazon.com and via certain other distribution channels. But not at Barnes and Noble and other Amazon competitors. You need an ISBN not from CreateSpace to do that.

CreateSpace charges nothing for an ISBN.

Bowker is the official ISBN agency. A publisher has to register on Bowker as a publisher and buy ISBN's to use on the books it publishes. Well, as least they did. Now anybody can say they are a publisher and get printed books published via CreateSpace because CreateSpace furnishes the ISBN free. Although CreateSpace is intended by Amazon to eliminate the need for a publisher, at least to get the book printed and made available for sale at Amazon.com.

I'll give you a very specific example real soon of exactly what CreateSpace charges to "print and send out the manuscript."

This person should not be watching late-night television. But wait, there's more!

That's right folks... For only $19.99 (in Monopoly money) you get to read not one... not two... but ALL of bsergi1's stories!

oh, wait a minute... he doesn't seem to have any... oooops.
