Ice storms suck, don't ever let anyone tell you they don't

Things around here are a mess. Power is still GOING out in places.

So I got myself a generator, wired it into the house, and I'm somewhat back up and running. No cable, but at least when I flip a light switch, something happens now. I got my internet going too. WooHoo!!

Power company is saying it might be two more weeks before everyone gets power back.

*mega hugs*
I heard they're sending in the natl. guard.

Be careful. On the news this morning they were talking about a family in Louisville that died of carbon monoxide poisoning after running their generator in the garage.

On a, 'lighter'note, ahem (sorry), getting a home generator and using it safely is most likely one of the better investments one might make.

Especially in Caleefornia, where billions of public tax dollars and more billions in federal grants have dotted the desert with solar farms and wind farms...and guess what...envirnomental laws prevent constructing the power lines to take that power to the cities.

Gotta be a better word than, 'irony', but for the moment, it escapes me.

Keep warm, Wildcard, and stay healthy, I have a commission for you in the revolution. (You can operate a Stinger, right? LaJackass will be your foist target)

Amicus...

Amicus - do you feel the government owes you a constant uninterrupted source of power?

All of us pay a bill for our power. So long as we are paying for a service, yes, we should receive that service with as few interruptions as possible.

What the hell was your point with that anyway?

Gee whiz, sorry Thee. I just meant that when I was a victim of a hurricane a few years back, I did not blame the government for not steeling itself against an extreme "act of God." We survived for two weeks without power. I admit, we did not have to worry about freezing to death, but sometimes stuff happens.

How much more would you be willing to pay, against your already stiff power bill, in order to insure an uninterrupted supply?

I was going to write up a reply about how the power company and the government are not synonymous and how they should have built the utility lines to survive the conditions in certain locations in the first place, but none of that has anything to do with Wildcard keeping warm.

Good luck with the generator, and keep warm Wildcard. I hope everything gets sorted out well enough.

We've been having some cold weather here too. Last night, the temperature got down to fifty, and today it just barely reached 70.

I thought Crankin the Generator was someone like Conan the Barbarian.

Be careful, Wildcard, and yeah, keep warm. Clean your freezer out now.

It was actually a lovely day here today. The high got up to about 61 deg., so the ice is gone.

Still no power, but the warm temps should keep anymore lines from going down now that all the ice is gone.

People were outside in short sleeves today beginning the clean up. Chainsaws were running everywhere.

Good to hear things are improving. :rose: Maybe I should get out my little chainsaw and come help. :D I don't last long doing that though. I probably wouldn't be much help.

Yes, well cranking, i was hoping for

crankin and wankin
wanking the crank
yes, okay so I have an unusual thought process

still wondering and worried, Kentucky - if the power company switches the power back on, will your alternate wire job be able to handle it?

Stay safe xo

Reminds me of when we were down hard from a hurricane. We could see the backyard neighbors and they had Tv - they had a generator and the cable signal did not go out from the storm. My son could see the tv through the window and asked to go there. It was in the height of the hurricane winds. I told him no and he tried to make a case, promised to wear his football helmet and pads to run across the yards.

Needless to say, I kept him indoors until the winds died down.
