How many children is too many?...

My question is this....
the woman already have six children... why would she go on fertility treatments?

Any of us who get shit from our families for not haveing children in our marriages?

All you have to do is say that she's taken up your reproductive share.

I think "Stupid cunt" applies rather well here.

Has it been confirmed that she was on fertility treatments? I ask because I know some of her older children are twins, so I was wondering if this was a natural malfunction. However, if not, I would have to second your question - why on earth?????

 I knew she had 8 didnt know she had 6 others, god help her if they all get chicken pox at the same time.

She actually said in the article that she was on fertility treatments

I still am going... HUH???

That may well apply.... good grief

100 years ago - that would have been a miracle and a godsend and a fucking curse.... ANd the "normal" family usually had 10 - 12 kids in it. (and about half of those would survive to adult hood.) Well actually that depended a lot on a whole series of circumstances not the least of which was their 'station' in life. (it was only the wealthy or well off who took to having less than 4 children - less to part out their wealth with - heir and spare and maybe a girl or two to cement aliiances)

I don't think it really matters how many children you have. I think it matters more if you can feed, clothe and nurture them the properly.

But I also feel her original doctor (if she even had one) should have done something to prevent the implantation of so many zygotes *say no more than two at a time?. It's irresponsible that. But then again sometimes none of them implant. (this going on the specualtion that she was implanted.) On the other hand if she was taking fertility drugs - and wasn't being monitored for over production of eggs.... well nature will as nature will. It doesn't really count as to what we might "want".

and I applaud her not "selectively aborting". She did what she felt should be done. No one else really should have a say in that. I wouldn't have done it myself... But I still firmly believe its a honest choice when it comes to it.

Its a catch twenty two - damed if you do - and damned if you dont.
But hey -
she at least will get a lot of free stuff from people in awe of it.
(thats the cold callous side)

Goodluck Momma - I hope you have a lot of loving supportive family and friends with you! (that will stick around!) Don't forget to try and get some sleep.

eta: and dont think that "stupid Cunt" doesn't flash through my mind either... Just trying to look at it from several levels...

and another eta: oooo that chaps a bit - she was on fertility drugs! questions arise then about where she got them, did she even have a doctor over seeing this? and why on earth - unless she was only trying for another set of twins? Did she only do it becuase of the possibilty of being flooded with enough supllies and support that she needn't worry about it?

going away now to find something that makes sense.

Especially the latter... maybe people in the 1909 had evolved further, but I know that earlier in history it was a tragedy for a woman to have twins, because people believed that since you normally only had one child at a time, the fact that you had two meant that the second child was conceived by the devil. Both mother and child could get killed for this. I can only imagine what would happen if someone had octuplets..!

I heard about that and I just figured she was a glutton for punishment, lol.
Children are a miracle. It's all very precious. But I'd have to hang myself, hehe.
Okay not really.

I guess it's only too many if you can't afford them.
But how can you divide your time in a fair way? (There aren't enough hours in the day!)

There's a local family here that has.. let me count- 10 kids.
The oldest is only 12. She's had twins, and before they were a year old she had another one.
And! She home schools them. I'd need a break and I'd pack them off to school, lol.

I guess what kinda bothers me about her to- she said she'd keep having children as long as God gave them to her.
But she took fertility drugs before she had the twins. Was that really God giving them to her? That part always has confused me, lol.

Anyway, I'm rambling. I guess if you can afford them, and love them, and control them, then you can have as many as you want, lol. Just count me out. :D

I fall on the entire other side of the spectrum. As far as I'm concerned, a woman shouldn't be allowed to have fertility treatments at all unless she signs something agreeing that she will selectively reduce too many embryos down to a "safe" number. No more than three, I'd say. After that, you're risking both mother and babies' lives, and possibly setting the babies up for serious disabilities. To me, NOT selectively reducing that many babies is unethical, not the other way around.

It's such a risk with all the health problems babies that small face. I was terrified just having one. I worried constantly. I can't even imagine multiplying that by eight. I'm a worrier though, I guess. But I'll keep my one precious kid. I doubt she'd feel quite so special if there were eight of her.

Another thought, I know what we all (grandma helps too) spend on dancing lessons and everything else. How could you do that for 14 kids? Is it fair to them to not be able to participate? I mean, I realize I only have the one kid, so she gets to do a lot, but...I don't know. Now I'm rambling too.

I agree with you.

Spidey takes karate and between monthly fees and testing, it averages out to about $100 a month. We could afford it for two if we needed to, but for more than that? It's doubtful.

I agree with you 100%.

I'm still stuck on why she did it when she already had six kids. Myself, I thought two was plenty.

(It may have been on the news, but I haven't kept up with it today.)

Yeah...I have three and while I adore them all...somedays I feel like even 3 is too many!

Gawd love her! I wish her all the best.

Now, do I think it was unethical to provide fertility treatmant for a woman that has 6 kids already...hell yeah! Something really doesn't mesh here.

Since she already had six children what kind of medical professional would even consider fertility treatments? That's the part I consider weird. Fertile? Hell yes, she was fertile. What was she trying to prove? The next thing that will really worry me is . . . in three years will she do it again?

Y'know, my first thought when I heard about the octuplets was along the lines of, "That's a fucking litter!"
I don't feel guilty anymore.

She'd be getting some serious medals and perks if she lived in either Stalinist Russia or Nazi Germany. ;)

Somehow I think God's command to "Go ye forth and multiply" is at work here. :p

She can almost field two baseball teams. A litter of babies.

And she plans to breastfeed? For heaven's sake.

If you can afford a litter, go for it. But they live in a modest home, I saw on the news, in an average sort of neighborhood. Anyway.

We have two kids, one of each flavor. We know we can provide for two.

We stopped there.

:rose:

Maybe, but I'm unable to find any reference to exponential growth in Genesis.

How the hell is she going to breastfeed? She'll be doing it constantly. My daughter was a preemie, and she nursed every three hours, day and night. And don't you have to feed them more often than bottle fed?
