I heard this on a show earlier today, and I'm still turning it over in my mind:

Rosa sat so Martin could walk. Martin walked so Barack could run. Barack ran so our children could fly.

How beautiful is that? :)

I have to think he would be so proud of his country today as we look toward the inaugeration of Barack Obama.

The last public speech he made was the day before he died, and it ended:

Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land!

Reverend King, you didn't get there with us, but you were still with us all the way. Thank you. :rose:

That's a beautiful statement....

Sometimes I'm a bit amazed, my mom told me stories of black men having to walk in the street she and her sister would walk by because simply sharing a sidewalk with a white girl would get them beaten. One of my boys' best friends is a young black boy that I had the chance to show him Dr. King's "I have a dream"speech and we talked about it point by point. In just three generations things have changed alot, and yet there's still a way to go too.

That's pretty cool. :)

When's the big thingy? Tomorrow?

CLOUDY

I recall a different Martin. The Martin I recall plagiarized Paul Tillich, fucked around on his wife, and showed up after the fact like flies on fresh turds. Wherever glory was newly hatched, Martin was soon there to steal it. The day after he died he was old news for most Americans.

Cynthia Tucker says his legacy is little more than successful marketing to dolts...I HAVE A DREAM HAS BECOME I HAVE A DREAMLAND. Her words.

Very lame. :D

Hey Cloudy... I will give you a cookie if you edited out his quote from your posting.

Thank you for posting this thread... and for posting the words in the Isolated thread.

Like I said before... He and His Lady Wife I hope are looking at us smiling :rose:

Though we still have a long way to go towards full equality for all in this country, no other nation on earth has ever come close to accomplishing what we've done in a mere 50 years in not only granting equal rights and privileges for all our citizens but in overcoming natural prejudice, ethnocentrism and inherent human suspicion.

To have come so far so fast is truly an almost miraculous achievement, and we every right to be terribly proud.

I am just so worried for the President-elect. I feared during the election that whoever 'won' would end up with an unsolveable mess that would tank their presidency. I hope it doesn't happen because I know that there are those who would blame it on his skin color. Stupid, but there you are. Fingers crossed, Barry.

I was impressed with Obama's speech about the state of the nation; he said everything I've been saying, viz., we're in a world of shit. At this point I support him and wish him success.

But I fear he's doomed before he starts.

I cannot imagine how he can repair our economy. Besides the Wall Street and bank failures, the states are in deep doo-doo, pension funds are 685 BILLION in the hole, MEDICARE is about to tank, and the baby-boomers are now retiring. We spend twice as much money on MEDICAID that we spend on the military.

I predict Obama will be hated by the Left within 6 months because there wont be a dime for social spending.

Although I respect the achievements of MLK, the whole "God's will" thing gives me the willies, especially considering the fact that the most recent political celebrity to invoke God's will was Sarah Palin. (Since I'm not an expert on the subject, I'm assuming they answer to different gods.)

A friend of mine's mother, while still little (I think kindergarten), would come home and sometimes talk about this girl in her class that was just like her. On parents' night her mother asked her who the girl was and she pointed to another little girl across the room. Her mother wrinkled her brow for a moment and said, "How is she just like you?" Friend's mother answered, "She can't go out to play after dinner either."

The other little girl was black. From what I understand, this actually brought tears to both her parents' eyes because they felt that meant they were doing a good job of teaching her that people are people, kids are kids, and skin color doesn't matter when it comes to who you are. I love that story.

I guess you'll be impressed as fuck, if he actually does it.

I predict in 6 months you will still be posting the same nonsense, no matter what Obama does.

It isn't what Obama can do, but what the people of the United States and its friends and allies can do while he is President.

If those who want him to succeed work hard on the problems facing the US and the world - then anything is possible. The expectations are high, the problems are large, but the support is there now. Whether that support will last, whether cross-party working is possible? I don't know, but Obama has given many people in the US and around the world hope that things can be different.

BRONZEAGE

I voted for him. I like the guy. I made it very clear during the contest that I didnt like McCain. My choice was vote for Obama or stay home. But I didnt believe he was up for the job THEN and I know he's not up for the job NOW.

I hope Obama is a huge success AND I expect he'll be run over by a train.

Time will prove me right.
