that the Story Feedback forum is not quite what it used to be?

Granted, I know that it has never been big like the AH. But...I just looked and most people aren't getting replies to their questions. There are threads dating back to the 1st of the year still on the top page with no answers.

Is it me? Just wondering. I know I've been out of it for a while, but I'm a little surprised. It used to be a very helpful forum.

Any thoughts?

Can't help you there, sweets. When I first started writing, I asked for feedback here in AH. I got so much help I never left. Haven't seen a lot that I want to get involved in on the other fora.

I got out of the Story Feedback forum when the "omg, this story writer rocks" posts and "i wrote such a cool story" posts crowded out the ones looking for feedback. That, and the never-ending nipples thread or breasts thread or whatever body part thread that is started bugging me.

But due to this thread, I just went there and critiqued one author asking for feedback.

My induction to the entire forum was via the Story Feedback Forum. Jenny Jackson tore me apart. It was SO helpful. It makes me sad that the people who are really good critics have fled. Oftentimes I would read the critiques of other people's stories and apply them to my own.

Is there a way to revive it and direct it back to its original purpose? Are people still willing to critique and be helpful?

Jenny did the same for me, here. Perhaps it wasn't exactly "tearing apart" but her points were sharp and I have endeavored to follow them since. I hope she's all right.

Darkside talked me into going there long ago. I found it helpful at the time and even put one of my own stories there. I still read what's there every day, but the entire 'feel' of it has changed.

I just haven't seen anything that caught my interest of late. I tend to check it at least once a day, but it's a little like what I'll read. They need to catch my eye with the thread title, the post, the story title, or something before I end up clicking.

I'd love to see a forum where you can get open honest feedback that's more than surface related. Being one of the newer authors here, the advice you get from people with more experience is invaluable. I'd welcome the forum getting back on track.

I don't remember the exact details, but Jenny had a major life upheaval. She's been away for a while taking care of her.

I remembered right, but I didn't want to say it since I wasn't sure. Too many bad things happening lately, and they're all a little cluttered in my head.

Maybe the reason is because people know they won't get good feedback anymore. Why post yourself there to get "OMG! I SO loved it!" ?

And ditto to both quotes you said above. That's why I was hesitant to answer as well. She's been on my mind lately, though. I hope she's okay.

Hmm, I didn't realize the Story Feedback forum was that way until just now reading this thread. Doesn't surprise me. All my feedback has become similar in recent years. Here I get votes of 4 and 5, some of which later disappear. On Stories Online, I get occasional comments like "good job" or "better than I expected" without further detail. Never anything more. I used to get more back in the old days- still do from my editor and significant other, but that doesn't really count as much as it would from a random reader.

I hope the environment will change and feedback will again become worth it. I often don't feel like writing much the way things are now. Argh.

If anyone wants to help transform things back to good by checking out my stories and commenting on them, the links are in my signature. I will try to do the same with your stories as my free time and interests allow.

Haven't been in for a while. Realised my responses were getting more negative than positive and decided that wasn't really helpful to anyone. Also had far less time.

It's a shame it's picking up cobwebs though. I found it useful when I first came here.

That's an understatement. 3 stories to review in the SDC in the last seven months. I'd like to get involved in the in-depth critiques that are handed out in that forum but there's nothing even remotely current to critique.
