Damn! And I was hungry!

A new lease on life -- at 140?

That's what a Manhattan lobster got Friday, when the 20-pound crustacean named George was released from a swanky Park Avenue restaurant's tank. City Crab and Seafood agreed to a request from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to let the lobster return to the Atlantic Ocean. "We applaud the folks at City Crab and Seafood for their compassionate decision to allow this noble old-timer to live out his days in freedom and peace," said PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk.

Some scientists estimate lobsters can live to be more than 100 years old. PETA and the restaurant gauged George's age at about 140, using a rule of thumb based on the creature's weight. Caught off Newfoundland, Canada, George lived in the tank for about 10 days. He was to be released Saturday near Kennebunkport, Maine, in an area where lobster trapping is forbidden.

The lobster was to make the trip to Maine in a plastic foam cooler, surrounded by seaweed, cold packs and wet newspapers.
Rest of story here.

And this is George:

I'm all for treating animals ethically, but oh, the lobster roll sandwiches I coulda made....

Patience, 3, patience. I see the surgeon again on Monday. When she gives me the go-ahead to try diving again I will see if my newly cleared sinuses allow me to go down around 20 feet. After all, lobster season doesn't close until March 17th.

(And the halibut run will begin when the grunion runs start in February!)

Sushi, hon?

Oooh, can I put in an order for lobster for March?

It would be the flying it there that would cause the problem. I think it would be possible in a styrofoam box filled with wet kelp but I'm not sure about the legalities. There is, however, a planned outting for lobster dinner to include myself and roomie, Molly and roomie and I'm sure that there will be room for you and Nero. Most likely Molly will insist. Give me a year's experience and Lit 4 might have some interesting ramifications.

Unless, of course, Stella and I can convince a LitWest gathering next winter? We have discovered a common kink. We both have a fetish for feeding people. :D

That's a big boy! That dude would be a family platter all on his own. Cool they're gonna kick him back - after they torture him some and all.

Out of curiosity, where do you plan to go for your midwest lobster dinner?

As long as you're diving....I'd really love some abalone fritters. :D

I don't know, VM. That thing looks like it might tear your arm off if you get careless! :D

Good possibility. Fortunately the Left Coast Lobsters are all clawless. And we get some huge ones here, too. Odd thing, though, since we started baiting the traps with PETA members we haven't heard any more complaints. Go figure.

Mind that big boy there. I've had a 4 pounder grab my air hose. Reduced the flow until I liberated him from his claw. That one there could make the same alteration to your neck.
