Anybody else watching Dick Clark's New Year's Rocking Eve?

Ol' Dick ain't looking too good. I'm not making fun of the grand old hip daddy, honest. I'm more worried than anything else. That stroke obviously did a number on him.

Yeah I saw that, he kinda creeped me out. Poor guy.

Yeah. The slurred speech, the gravelly voice . . . I appreciate the footwork his co-hosts are doing for him, but it almost seems like they're humoring an icon.

Sadly, America's oldest teenager is no more. :(

That was painful watching him. He's gutsy tho.

Yeah, you gotta hand it to the grand old man of rock n roll. He refuses to quit. Something encouraging about that, no matter who pitiable he might be.

I have a feeling we won't see Dick next year, though.

Gads. Let's hope it doesn't become Ryan Seacrest's New Year's Rockin' Eve . . . .

didn't watch him for very long, but I did notice he is really wrinkle free for his age....must be all the botox..

yeah that stroke did a number on him. Got to give him propts though. He really tried to hang in there.

Yeah, my heart hurt when he couldn't keep up with the countdown.

Actually he looks a lot better than he did last year.

Really? See, I didn't watch any New Year's Eve coverage last year, so I was wondering. All I had heard about Dick Clark was his stroke and subsequent therapy. Watching him this evening, I didn't see the same man I'd watched years before. I saw the great uncle everyone feels sorry for and humors at certain times of year, which is truly sad.

It was as if extending the same dignity he had enjoyed in years before was now more like a token gesture, a pitying gesture. "Only because it's you, Dick. Otherwise, you wouldn't have any camera time."

I don't think they'll ever take his name off that. Dick Clark and New Year's Eve go hand-in-hand. They have since I can remember. Even when the man is gone, I don't think ABC will ever change the name. It'll be a sad day around the world when he dies.

It was sad watching him last night. You could tell he was very aware of what was going on around him. At least when I was watching with some friends, we all formed that opinion.

Happy New Year.

I thought he looked pretty good, and he seemed pretty with it mentally. I got really tired of trying to understand what he was saying though. I'm sure that seems really intolerant, and I'm sorry. It was frustrating and, yeah, painful. Hey, good for him though for not letting anything keep him down.

He actually did look better than in years past. The first year he came back after the stroke he was really bad. But, after all, the guy is 79 years old.

I think I was 10 or 11 when the first New Year's Rockin Eve played. LOL, We only had 3 channels on the TV, and it was an interesting alternative to Guy Lombardo.

I don't think they'll change the name. If you noticed, the show is produced by "Dick Clark Productions" so that company may just keep the name.

Yeah, I think he knew how he was being treated, and more than likely, really was not happy with sitting off and away, while Ryan Seacrest humored him. Its really a shame to see that, an icon like that, having to take the humoring of a flash in the pan kid.

Was going to say something about Peter Jennings' death and "World News Tonight," but that's different; how can you keep the full name as "World News Tonight, with Peter Jennings" if the man's not there anymore? However, it wouldn't surprise me if, when Dick passes, they do take his name off of it and put in the name of the new host. It wouldn't surprise me if they leave it there. I can see it going either way. :(

I saw his show the New Year's immediately following his stroke. He's not himself anymore, obviously, but he was so much worse that year than he is now. He has gotten a lot better.

He did look like a bad animatronic device. Tore my heart out (yes, I do have one). The end of an era is looming......Carney

I recall all the jokes about his apparent ability to withstand aging, as if he was a robot or something.

Now, it all seems to have caught up with him. I hope Dick takes the noble way and bows out gracefully. But fifty years under a spotlight can have an effect upon one's brain, I suppose.

I feel for the guy, this has obviously been an ongoing part of his life for many years and I can understand that he wants to still be involved in it... but it was uncomfortable watching him. In addition to the wrinkle free status mentioned above, he also seems incredibly tan for the December/January switch.
