Actually, on a free Web site, I do see "views" as sales. I just believe that most of Scouries sales are to himself. (And, no, it doesn't have a direct relationship to satisfied readers.)

We don't know what a view is any more than we know how the sweeps work, though. Experimentation with invisible links in my sig here ( and at a couple of other places that I post ) on long dormant stories in low-readership cats resulted in view spikes, which leads me to believe that search engine spiders probably count as views.

Since you don't link, that won't skew your views as much, but it's a likely prospect for scouries, who plasters his links all over creation.

Not knowing how the pages are coded, any click that touches the story ID ( public comment board, each page of the story, etc. ) could register as a view. When your views update before the story goes live and you see several views ( I've had as many as 12 ), that leans toward such conclusions.

More or less, "View" doesn't necessarily equal "viewer". It could very well be that browsers, people who just pause to look at the cover, people who read the reviews, and even the employee dusting the shelves is ticking the counter.

As you know DB (I’ve said it often enough) not only do I not know what a VIEW is, I’ve also never believed the numbers reported. In fact I once estimated on this thread that LITEROTICA inflates the numbers 7-12 times.

However, whatever a view is I’ve got a lot of them. In fact two of my stories have over a million of them (whatever they are).

And my ROYALTY payments are based on them… which is good…

Was there perhaps an answer to the question in there somewhere? (It's sort of no wonder, though, that you are able to keep your individual stories above 750 words.)

My mother is dead, by the way. I'm sort of interested in what she had to say from the other side, though.
