Okay, what can you do at 18 in the United States that you couldn't do before?

Each year I like to give my girl an age related present because her birthday is also X'mas. This year she will be 18. I'm stumped. Any ideas?

She can buy/possess X-rated materials... and "toys." And sign contracts. That's about all I can think of. Sorry I'm not much help, lol!

Hmm, interesting. How about a coupon for a trip to the local sex emporium? LOL.

I'm not sure she'd be into that but she might.

I can just hear me now. "Here is your first grown up toy darling."

And I did already buy her some Buffy comics. I hear there is some girl on girl action in one of them.

Hmm . . .

You can buy lotto tickets and cash them in yourself when you're 18.

You could get her a voter registration form :p You can get cigaretts when you turn 18 (at least in my state). You can join the army without parental permission... uhm.. You can buy porn when you turn 18. Thats all I can think of. Voting, shooting, smoking, and fucking. Hooray!

Some states you can get married before your 18, I know, but I think most is 18?

Voter registration is PERFECT! She was so mad she couldn't vote in this election! Thank you!

I don't want her in any branch of the service.

I don't want her married, if at all, until she is 30! Hopefully gay marriage will be legal in the entire US by then.

I sure don't want her smoking.

She's probably already seen whatever kind of porn does it for her, if any, on the internet.

I'm not sure I'm all that gung ho on her fucking. People can lose their damn minds doing that and I'm hoping she'll stay focused on her goals but we shall see. So far she has met very few out lesbians her age.

I've already taken both of my kids target shooting.

You can put her on the train to me and I'll entertain her for a weekend.

It's too bad she couldn't vote this time around, but I would get her a few books related to (depending on her interests) politics, voting (maybe history of voting) or elections. There are so many books out there. You wouldn't have to get anything necessarily dry or heavy.

Maybe you could get her some books about this history of women voting along with her registration form :) My mom got me so many books about the womens vote and all the great womens rights activists from that time when I was growing up and it really helped put things in perspective for me. No voter apathy in this house!

For my 18th birthday my mom was going to rent a cottage at the beach for me and my best friend for the weekend.

It didn't work out, but it would have been awesome if it had.

In many places, 18 is the age at which a person can open financial accounts, or make investments, without a custodial adult as part of the transaction.

When my niece turned 18, I opened a CD account in her name (solo) and gave her a copy of Suze Orman's book: Women and Money. It's a not a book for the financially sophisticated, but does provide solid and clearly explained advice on the basics.

LMAO! She may be kinky or she may not, I'm not sure yet, (though I do know she has control issues and likes to beat people up and get beat up), but one thing is certain she is not into men entertaining her.

Now that sounds fab!

I think I might be her best friend too. LOL!

Great idea. I'll have to think on it. This is an area she has heavily researched on her own.

Thats another great idea. We've also done quite a bit of research on this issue but again, I'll be thinking on it.

Those are lovely and thoughtful things that you did for your niece! I'm impressed.

My girl already has CD's and accounts but my name is also on them. I plan on them staying that way for a while though. She needs help with all of her financial details. She will be taking them over but slowly and not all at 18.
