Clothing optional beach?

Because of the financial crisis the State of Florida is talking about cutting funding for it's state parks. This isn't a good thing as that funding is what allows them to pay the Park Rangers and Life Guards. There is already talk of closing a couple of beaches that are State or County Parks.

One group has an idea that seems to make sense, one that they have brought forward before and had shot down. They think though that this time it might fly. They want the state or county to designate a couple of beaches here in our county as Clothing Optional. They claim that these beaches would generate a fairly sizable amount of money and have used other beaches as examples. They even named a couple of beaches they say would be good for this. (One not far from where I live.) These beaches are not overly popular beaches, every time I visit them they seem to be deserted. I personaly think they would be great for this.

Naturally there are people screaming about this. It's been amusing to listen to them. One group wants the idea shot down because of the "sinning" they know would be going on at these beaches. (I wonder if these people have ever visited a nude beach or nudist resort?) Another group is complaining that this would effectively be taking the beach away from them. (Huh?) I remember hearing the same arguments when Provincetown Mass. wanted to make a small section of beach there clothing optional.

Now here's a question for you. Would you agree to allowing a clothing optional beach in your county? Why or why not? Would you patronise it if it was there?

I think you can guess my views on this but I will state them. Hey I posted this so I can go first. I would allow the beach and yes I would patronise it.

We have a local nudist beach.

It isn't necessary to be nude to swim from it but if you walk past it you have to expect to see nude bodies.

The nude bodies are likely to be blue when the winter wind blows down from the Arctic Circle. There are scheduled skinny-dipping events on Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

I'll keep my nudity indoors until the summer.

I'm used to seeing boobs on beaches so it's never been an issue for me. I personally don't feel comfortable being completely naked in public, but I don't mind going topless. No tanlines is a good bonus too.

I am a big fan of clothing optional and nude beaches. Some of my best friends I met at nude beaches.

There are reams of studies that show nudist beach patrons actually are more moral, have stronger family relations, their children score higher on standardized tests, less stress and in general its a good thing for a community.

When I lived in San Diego, Black's was a nude beach. It's hard to imagine an area more conservative than San Diego and they seem to have no problem with a nude beach.

You have no idea then how hard we had to fight the good people to keep it a nude or clothing optional beach back in the early 70's. They tried no less than nine times to shut it down.

Since I've always been a nudist, I have no problem with all beaches being clothing optional but that'll never happen.

Can't remember the last time I was on a beach when there weren't a couple of topless sunbathers.
Unofficial clothing optional beaches are fairly common. They are usually relatively secluded and small.
I'm unlikely to ever use one, but I've fiercely defended their existence on more than one occasion.

As I recall, they did 'shut Black's Beach down' several times. However, people continued to use the beach, in the nude. At first people would scurry for towels when the lifeguards came up the beach from Scripps Pier. However, the lifeguards didn't seem to care and Black's quickly reverted to a nude beach.

The last time I went to a Nude Beach it was with my wife. The people there were a mix, everything from a family with crumbsnatchers to the older couple in their 80's. Sizes varied from a guy who made Twiggy look overweight to a couple that had more chins than a chinese phone directory. None of them truly got my attention nor did any of them make me feel the need to wash my eyes with Draino. Hell no one ran screaming from me and I can be used to make children eat their veggies.

As for "sinful activity" it depends on the beach. You have Haulover pretty close to you which very tame.

However, when I was going to Hippie Hollow in Austin, there was a lot of "sinful activity". That was a while ago, so I don't know if it's been cleaned up.

Hippie Hollow has lost a lot of its' spirit. There are a lot of giggling kids who go there just to stare at/make fun of naked people. It's actually very tame now.

Not too far from Rhein Main Airbase there is a swimming area called the Sand Pits. Tis was at one time a sand quarry which filled with water. People started swimming there and it caught on. Now it is an official beach.

Being in Germany it is a split beach. One part is clothed and one part is clothing optional. Both side are clean, well marked and well maintained. (At least they were when I was there.)

When I was there and visiting these beaches both the local Air Force and Army Commanders had rendered them off limits to American Servicemen and Women. Their stated reasons were safety. (It could be dangerous swimming there if you didn't watch what you were doing. The pits were deep and below a shallow level the water was ice cold which could cause cramping.) Of course everyone knew the real reasons, their moral outrage at all of the skin being shown. (I wasn't affected by this ban by the way being a Contractor and not Active Duty Military.)

Now the funny thing was there were still a lot of Americans getting injured there. Rarely were these injuries caused by swimming though. Instead they were caused by these service men, and sometimes women parking their cars down the road and walking to the beach. They would then wander around until they found the clothing optional section and procede to take pictures. This quite often resulted in the Germans attempting to insert said cameras in the servicemans bodily orifices with varying degrees of success.

Then again I wasn't at all surprised by this. When I lived on Cape Cod part of the National Seashore was an unofficial Nude Beach. The National Seashore finally shut this down because of damage to the dunes caused by the gawkers who would try to get views of the people on the beach without being seen. (Funny thing about that was how many of the people caught in the dunes with cameras were those against the Nude Beach.)
