I'm curious about the mental health of a woman who would deny candy to some of the trick or treaters.

Doesn't surprise me. The woman who runs our store refused a huge set of rentals for Tuesday because they're all for Obama's rally downtown. Would've been a lot of money for her but telling supporters of her candidate's opponent is more important I suppose.

I once turned my hair and beard gold with soluble spray paint just for a costume party. I wouldn't want to do it again. It took six washes to remove most of it. "Soluble" wasn't as soluble as I thought.

It's next to impossible going dark to light if Cloudy's hair is any darker than mine, which I'm assuming it is. Al I can do to mine without doing permanent color damage is a bit of red.

I was blond but with a ginger beard.

Some people thought I had dyed one or the other.

Both were natural. In the 1960s I thought that a blond flat-top crew cut looked great with a neat ginger beard.

Some of my girlfriends disagreed so I grew some more cranial hair until I had a Beatles-style mop top. It still didn't fit with the ginger beard so I reverted to standard "short back and sides".

At least I was distinctive.

The beard has been a fixture for forty-plus years. Now beard and what's left of hair are a matching white.

Going back to the hair... I'm extremely lucky in that I can pull off any hair colour. I'm naturally mousy blonde, but my hair has been the entire spectrum of platinum blonde to black, via ginger, pillarbox red, chestnut brown, green, pink and blue.

This is true. I know a number of adults that will blame the children of those who have "wronged" them as much as the originators. However, I hope the parents also teach that not all adults are like this, and that they shouldn't mimic this woman's activity either (especially if they don't want to spend two weeks after Halloween tidying up the tricks!)

It's a damn shame that Halloween has been so politicized. But, then, I never celebrated it. My parents were already less than thrilled that I was born on it, though they used that fact to celebrate my birthday instead of All Hallows' Eve.
