Not cows. Tips. Like extra money you give to cabbie, waitress, etc. Not to sound like an ignorant American....well on second thought, what the hell? Ignorant American here. Does one tip in Canada? If so, about how much?

Thank you for that prompt reply! So tipping is common and pretty much the same as in the States? (Who you tip, how much you tip?) We don't want to be offending anyone on the other side of the border.

Edited to add: no Liss, I don't mean you. You're going to get me profiled and kicked out!

Yes, chere. Tipping up there is pretty much the same as here. I've spent time in Toronto and Montreal, and in both cases, I usually did 15% standard and 20% for excellent service. I tipped: hotel maids, bellmen, cabbies, waitstaff, etc.

What in fuck is waitstaff? Is that like a server or a waitress/waiter? How about GOFER? Hi, I'm Jim and I'll be your gofer this evening.

No one is a clerk anymore, theyre administrative assistants.

Someone please tell me why youre pissant job has to seem like SUPREME ALLIED COMMANDER OF THE MILKY WAY GALAXY.

Canadians are notoriously bad tippers, but 10 -15% is good. American waitresses have a joke: What's the difference between a canoe and a Canadian?

Canoes tip. :D

Waitstaff are people who pointedly ignore stinky, old, curmudgeon’s when they sit in their section of the restaurant.

STILL
waiting for your coffee are ya JBJ?

I actually heard that from a good friend who was from Vancouver, B.C., done as "What's the difference between a Canuck and a canoe?" but the joke was the same.

Yes, it's been my casual experience that Canadians are bad tippers, but that doesn't mean that there one needs to emulate the habit. I think that 15-20% is good, too.
