Something to think about...

A young couple moves into a new neighborhood. The next morning, while they are eating breakfast,
the young woman sees her neighbor hang the laundry outside.

'That laundry is not very clean,' she said, 'She doesn't know how to wash correctly.
Perhaps she needs better laundry soap.'

Her husband looked on, but remained silent. Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to
dry, the young woman would make the same comment. About a week later, the woman was
surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband, 'Look! She has
learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her how.

The husband simply says, 'Well, I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows.'

And so it is with life. What we see when watching others depends on the purity of the window
through which we look. Before we give any unkind criticism, it will be a good idea to check
our state of mind first and ask ourselves if we are ready to see something good rather than
something bad in the person we are about to assess or judge.

Actually? Life is not a window.

No, life is not a window.

But we view the world and others through the windows (idealogies) with which we identify. They have shaped and formed our world view. I believe it is important to why we see things a specific way. We can try to step out of our ideological boxes, but we just step right into another. There is no way to be complete clear and view life without that glass barrier. Understanding what we are looking through helps us to understand how someone else could see exactly the same thing in a completely different way.

LOL.. Ok so I like Althusser.

Sorry, illiterate goob, here. I am suspicious of metaphors but prefer life as a window to it being a computer moniter. At least you can open the window and reach outside to someone. All we can do here is type, thus loosing all the non-verbal commo the real life entails.

Why am I writing this instead of eating lunch?

:confused::confused::confused:

You? Illiterate? You trying to sell a bridge with that too?

I think this is exactly what I mean. That little story means different things to all of us, and none of us are wrong.

I find beauty in that.

Nah, just get close enough to steal a kiss. ;)

Damn, I thought maybe you were an exhibitionist. :p

I think it's a wonderful update of an ancient parable, I find myself repeating the aphorism about motes and planks from time to time, but usually only irritates the religious and confuses everybody else.

And we do all perceive the world through our own filters, attitudes, opinions - whatever you want to call them.

Just as long as you allow someone close enough, they will always look at the person.

What you allow, and what the other sees as a barrier are often not the same thing.

The "chair" in which you sit as you are pushed along is a barrier to others.

Being tall(er), you will see the world as short(er). It's unavoidable

Bend your knees. If the other is the tall one, let them know they can bend their knees.

Prejudice is a two part word. Allow others to forget the first part.

Be careful not to judge, that you won't be judged yourself by ones who were guilty of judging the ones who judged you when you were out judging the jury.
