For those who would know: can I wear black to a wedding?

What's the etiquette? I have no idea. When I last went to a funeral, I was the only non-family member wearing black -- apparently things have changed and black at a funeral is no longer a requirement.

So does that mean I can wear black to a wedding? It is described as "semi-formal" yet it is taking place during the day. Truth be told, I am cheaply trying to avoid buying a new dress.

Yes, Goth. Lance Bass brought Goth back on 'Dancing With the Stars' last week during a tango - sorta the Cure meets the Nightmare Before Xmas - and surprisingly got high votes. This is neither here nor there, I just loved the routine and all the GOTH mentions.

Dress how you feel/want, but I wouldn't dare try to upshine the bride or make both parties uncomfortable unless I had the name Madonna or Prince.

It is HIGHLY possible there will be drama. Big time. There is a lot of anger brewing behind the scenes about this wedding. A couple of gravy trains got derailed as a result too...

Use a complimentary color in your accessories. Purple might be too dark though...black and tan works for an understated classic look.
