Am suffering nasty after effects from a vaccination. yesterday I cheered myself with garlic bread and Doritos, today it's Toblerone and Prawn Crackers.

Here is a thread to come and eat comfort food and have a little moan or discuss the relative merits of crunchy versus melty - or whatever.

Come, enjoy, have a cracker...

mmmmmmm....for me it's hot, sweet, melty chocolate...warm chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven.

Followed with an ice cold glass of milk.

For extra comfort...I'll take a very dry gin martini with 3 olives...;)

When I'm feeling down my comfort food of choice is rum 'n' Coke, but when I want real food at a time like that usually it's sweets or something, anything I can quickly microwave and save myself the trouble of having to cook.

Oooh. :)

Chocolate's always good. But thickly-buttered toast takes some beating, in my humble opinion. There's just something about the crunchy/doughy texture that does it for me.

And it has to be butter. No vegetable oil substitutes, thank you very much. :D

I'm trying to disassociate food from comfort, but I fail a lot of the time.

My biggest downfall is homemade mac and cheese, with butter, cream and cheddar, dripping with carbs and cholesterol. *sigh*

I try to shy away from comforting eating. I was chubbier in my early teen years and wasn't too fond of the extra weight, so over the course of a few years I've lost 40 pounds or so.

Though, there is nothing better than Mexican food when you're looking for that perfect comfort food: soft tacos (Teehee), nachos and burritos stuffed with everything you can think of that's gooey and cheesy, crunchy and just delicious.

I think the only thing that would be better is eating Mexican food while having sex. But that would be messy. :D

Buns. Sandwiches. Chocolate. Hamburgers. Nachos with salsa. Bananas.

The orde of the above differs depending on my economy at the moment.

Ouch! DO you know how painful it is when someone tries to chew your nipple off? No, I'm keeping my pants ON, thank you very much! Get those fangs away from me!!!

Well, I would have said Grilled Cheese, but Selena beat me too it ...

So I'll go with a few of my slightly more unusual ones:
Tuna & Noodle Casserole (made on the stovetop, not baked)
Welsh Pasties
and lastly, an unusual dish that goes way back in my family called Steak and Pie Dough. It's basically a swiss steak, seared in lard. Then the fat is used to make a thick brown gravy to braise the steak. This is all then layered with pie dough (the same thing you'd make pie crust from), rolled about a 1/4 inch thick. The dough acts like kind of a dumpling, soaking in the flavor of the gravy in the outer layers, but having a lighter, flakier texture like a pie crust would.

Mmmmmm

Chocolate in one hand and a glass of white wine in the other. Ahh I finally feel a little better.

Ahhh comfort foods.

Most of what I consider comfort foods make people shudder so I'll give you some of the simpler ones.

Chili, No not that shit you get in the restaraunts but the stuff my father calls Back Country Chili. You know the kind. Braise a pound of cubed Venison and a pound of cubed Rabbit. Toss them in a slow cooker or the pot on the back of the stove. Brown a pound of small cut Bacon, add this and half the grease to the pot. Toss in a diced onion or two. Add half a head of Garlic, minced. Two or three chopped Tomatoes, a couple of cups of pre soaked Beans. (I like Pinto Beans but damned near any bean will work. As long as they aren't Navy Beans.) Half a dozen dried Ancho Chili's, half a dozen Chipotle Chili's, a can of beer, a palm full of salt and if you happen to have them a couple of Bay Leaves. Let this cook down for a couple of days and serve with either Fry Bread, Corn Bread or fresh Tortillas.

Bacon. Dry Cured and well smoked then cut thick. Dip rolls into the Bacon Grease.

French Onion Soup. The real kind with two day old thin cut bread and melted cheese on top.

Knorr Oxtail Soup.

Grilled Spam.

I've been having the worst week. Just started teaching at a local middle school and the kids are just walking all over me, despite my best efforts. I've handed out detentions in bunches, punished them with lines and essays, taken away their privileges, sent a few to the office, and even permanently removed a few from the class, but nothing has helped. So on Wednesday I treated myself to my favorite restaurant. Got an awesome burger and some banana cream pie for desert. Always makes me feel better.

Ah, fuck. I know exactly what that's like. :( :rose:

Hope they'll see the light soon.

Topic: My appetite is slowly getting better. I love a good, homemade pizza for comfort, and I have a thing for nachos with cheese (hot cheese - not as in spicy but as in warm).

Dark chocolate with whole hazelnuts is great too.

And of course Doener. I can't wait to go back to Germany and have one. *swoons*

This is a food thread right? Okay, then eat one of the nasty little buggers in front of the rest of the class. When you get done ask if anyone would like to be seconds!

Ultimate comfort food for me is meatloaf (homemade, mine, and delicious), mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans cooked with big chunks of ham.

...or my mother's chicken and dumplings. Mine are almost as good as hers, but...not...quite.

...or my mother's homemade clam chowder with a big pat of real butter in the bottom of the bowl, and fried pork crispies sprinkled on top.

Good thing I just ate, or now I'd be starving.

I would, but sadly we're not allowed to eat in class. :(

Well, I've pretty much decided that today was my last day there. That whole situation is a complete mess, and it's not something I can fix at this point in my career.

Got any leftovers from that meatloaf? (you just pressed one of my "Love That Stuff" buttons) I'll bring my chocolate pudding!
