Would it be too much to ask...(political)

I'd say that anyone in a position to do anything about the warnings given about the stability of the levees is at fault. Ultimately, though, the buck stops at the president's desk.

Even if you concede, however, that the levees would've failed regardless of whether or not those warnings were heeded, the mobilization of relief efforts was a major fuck-up that lies squarely at the feet of FEMA -- and, by extension, the man who appointed its director.

But the horses were well trained!

He's not going to absorb that point, Imp. You might think he's gotten the point, but in some future thread he'll claim that poor Dubya got blamed for hurricane Katrina. And another thread after that. Ad nauseum. Box is a True Believer in the Fox News mold.

Box, to be clear, my question about your sentence structure related to my not being sure who you thought was more responsible, not grammar.

Personally, I agree that anyone who had the warnings about the levies and ignored them deserves blame. But I also think Bush deserves every bit of scorn he receives.

Interestingly, the situation did result in showing that Bush CAN learn... when we had our second round of destruction from wildfires, ol' George got here damn quick and made sure his ass was on the ground and that he was offering federal aid.

Of course, that might also be because he was afraid of pissing off the Governator.

( I know people think I hate all republicans, but ya know what? I LIKE Arnold. True, I didn't vote for him. But I think he has done a lot better job than I expected and I do respect him.)

Oh, well, we ALL know that the hurricane itself was Ellen Degeneres' fault. :|

You know, Bel, I've been thinking about what you said here, and not only do I agree with you (the Governator did turn out better than I ever expected him to be!), but the interesting thing is that Arnold is one of the few politicians I'd allow to wear that label all his fellow republicans try to wear: Maverick.

I don't like or agree with everything he decides or does, but there's one thing that's sure, he's not towing his party's line nor is he towing the other party's line. He really does seem to be, in a maverick way, doing what he thinks is best for the state. If he thinks the conservative way is best, he goes that way. If the liberal way is best, he goes that way. And the irony is that we might have to give thanks to the fact that he *can't* be president for his willingness to do that.

When he started off on the job and people were saying, "Hey, maybe we can do away with that rule which says he can't be president..." well, he tried to tow the party line. Then he seemed to give up on that dream, and sudden started doing his job. That's what I call maverick. Just doing your job as best as you can do it, not trying to benefit yourself or your buddies or your party. Trying to do what's right by the people who hired you to lead.

As I said, I don't always agree with his decision, but at least I think he's making most of them for the right reasons. I can't say that about many others.

Arnie's heart is in the right place. I can very easily forgive mistakes when I know the motive is clean.

And while I respected him before, I grew to genuinely care for him during the last bout of wildfires. Make no mistake about it, he was a major force for good and he CARED about what was going on. I have heard many stories about him and how he acted and saw with my own eyes as he basically divested himself of an entourage at Qualcomm Stadium and put his people to work helping the volunteers.

He ain't perfect, but he does care about the job and not just where it can take him.

Arnold's okay, but I feel a lot more secure that he won't revert, when I think about Maria Shriver holding his little steroid shrunken nads! :D

But the SOB STILL needs to learn how to pronouce California!
