This reminds me that I've started considering marrying my girl. We hit the 5 year mark in being steady a few months ago. The really weird thing is that we have absolutely nothing in common.

She listens to Pink and Abba, I listen to Rammstein.
She is veggie, I can't live without a steak.
She is submissive, I'm not. (okay, this doesn't really count.)
She doesn't get my jokes and I don't get hers.
If she would win big on the lottery, she would buy a farm and convert it into an animal shelter. I would buy a high tech center in Tokyo.
She prefers doggy, I prefer blowjobs.
She tells me to be nicer to the people in the virtual world, I tell her to shut the fuck up.
She enjoys movies like Happy Feet and Wallace & Grommit, I enjoy Equilibrium and Shaun of the Dead.
She is Pisces, I'm Gemini.
She has a hairstyle that I would describe as "lesbian dominatrix from hell", I prefer simple blonde long hair.
She smiles at a beautiful flower, I smile at my new home theater pc.
...

Being with her for another 30 years?

You've been with her for five years. You two are obviously doing something right.

I wish you well, Primalex.

And Equilibrium was a cool flick.

There's more than the surface things that draw people. Take K and I:

He listens to heavy metal, I listen to country and oldies.

He likes to hunt and camp - I'd rather not.

He's a optimist, I'm a pessimist.

He loves to watch TV and movies - I'd rather be shot than spend that much time in front of the boob toob.

When I DO watch movies, I like light comedies, and I DO NOT like slapstick or horror. My favorite movie is Steel Magnolias, and his is Aliens.

I love to read, he'd rather not.

He's totally into politics, and I only pay attention to the key points.

He's a snuggler, I have to remind myself to snuggle.

But!

We're both Christians. We're both on the conservative side politically. We both wanted children, and know that our priorities lie with the kids and our family. We're sexually compatible. We love to go out to eat, etc. The underlying issues are compatable.

You've made it five years, clearly those differences aren't dealbreakers or you wouldn't have lasted this long. Really a lot of what you mentioned is surface stuff as well, not the core of who each of you are. It sounds to me like you have a good thing going...so good luck if/when you pop the question and best wishes for many more happy years together. :) :rose:

Oh and on a sidenote...Loved Equilibrium.

The only thing that I see from your list of difference that could be a problem is what I quoted above as it might pertain to the long term goals in your life.

Would you be happy to live in a high tech animal shelter in the country side?
Would she be happy to run a animal shelter in the middle of a metropolis?

If you can find an agreement on your long term life goals (you did not say anything about children so I take it as you agree on it) it should work just fine.

like everyone here, you made it 5 years. You must be doing something right

This is a voice of reason. I know, I'm being urged to move to Chicago periodically. NO.

As far as I'm concerned history is just that.

The present and the future are the most important things, in that order.

(I thought your posts had seemed a little more, um, forgiving than usual. So this is why, you've got a big question on your mind. How exciting. How terrifying).

Good luck with that. :rose:

You could've almost just described Daddy and I to a "T"... and we have been pretty much happily married for 20 years now. We couldn't be more opposite to each other either, but you can't help who you fall in love with. Here's wishing you the best of luck in whatever you decide. :rose:
