So I go into work this morning and get my assignment. There are two other Aides there and there are 28 patients on the floor. Cool, this could be an easy day for a change.
Then I'm informed I'm supposed to work the desk. Okay that kind of sucks. It means the other Aides will be working with 14 patitents each and I get to suffer at the desk. (I hate working the desk, it's a pain in the butt.)
The other Aides scream and stomp their feet and a compromise is reached, without my input. I am informed that I will have 8 patients, plus I have to work the desk. I'm not overly pleased by this but I know there is no recourse for me. The other Aides are some of the favored ones.
I crank through the Vitals. While I[m doing this I find that one of my patients is an Alzheimers Patient from a Nursing Home. She doesn't like being bothered but I get her vitals done and get her cleaned up. (She's soaked with Urine.)
By 0830 I'm done with the vitals, have cleaned up the one patient and made two beds.
Back to the desk where I plot Temps. Answer the phone and Call Bells. A bunch of paperwork and make a pot of coffee.
Back to my team, clean up the Alzheimers Patient again. Feed her breakfast and then on to other patients. Get my three Post Ops cleaned up and walking in the halls.
It keeps on like this. I'm running my ass off and one of my R.N.'s has the attitude that she has to keep the Aides busy. Every time I go into the Alzheimers Patitents room I have to clean her up. She gets more and more aggitated. The other Aides finish their assignments and sit around the Nurses Station B.S.ing.
I go into the Alzheimers room and get pelted with a barrage of waste. After I get her cleaned I get myself cleaned up and into a clean uniform. (There's a reason I keep a spare in my locker.) The other Aides are laughing their asses off over this.
It goes on like this for most of the day and the Charge Nurse isn't saying a word. Instead she's loving life. I even get cursed out by the other Aides for being too lazy to make coffee. Some of the R.N.'s are getting pissed off about this.
One of the M.D.'s enters the Alzheimers Room and comes out quickly. He complains the patient is filthy and needs to be cleaned up. I heave a sigh and get ready to go into the room for the umpteenth time that day when the R.N.'s stop me. They send me off to the lab while telling the other two Aides that I was busy and they had to cover for me.
After complaining long and hard about this they went into the room only to be met by a well aimed barrage of waste. Both of them were well covered. Neither of them had spare uniforms.
As one of the R.N.'s told them, if you want to sling the shit you have to expect to get splattered.
