They sound like a singing duo, don't they?

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Tropical Storm Hanna cruised toward the Carolinas on Friday, forecast to hit land overnight and promising to deliver gusty winds and heavy rain during a dash up the Eastern Seaboard that could wash out the weekend for millions of people.

Not far behind was a much bigger worry: a ferocious-looking Hurricane Ike, on a path similar to the one taken by Andrew, the Category 5 monster that devastated South Florida in 1992. Ike could hit Florida by the middle of next week.

Emergency officials urged evacuations in only a few spots in the Carolinas and about 400 people went to shelters in both states. Forecasters said there was only a small chance Hanna could become a hurricane, and most people simply planned to stay off the roads until the storm passed....Rain started falling early Friday on the Carolina coast, with streets in some spots flooding by late afternoon and wind gusts hitting 45 mph as the leading edges of the storm approached land, making people gathered on beaches shout to be heard.

Hanna was expected to blow ashore early Saturday morning between Myrtle Beach and Wilmington, N.C., then race up the Atlantic Coast, reaching New England by Sunday morning.
Atlantic coast folk, please let us know all's well! SeaCat has taken care of Florida and the threat of Ike there in his aptly titled "End of the World" thread, but, hey, Floridans, check in here as well.

Stay safe and dry!

Well we're already starting to feel the effects of Hanna up here in Norfolk. Last I heard it is supposed to be over us at 2pm Saturday with winds up to 40mph. The house is 60+ yrs old so I'm sure we'll be fine.

They don't really know what direction Ike will take, I'm on the west coast of FL watching Ike and hoping it just stays south and goes to Mexico!

Which means I should be feeling it at some point on saturday night. I'm up in New Hampshire, so I can keep people posted on that front. Though in all honesty I'm not too worried about this area because we don't get many hurricanes or tropical storms and if we do it misses the rest of the east coast in order to have any impact on us.

Between the two of us you can pretty much predict the upper east coast, halfway between us would be where Magica is and DL and I will be calling her at some point tomorrow to see if she's alright since we haven't heard from her in a while...

mmmm yea I believe she's supposed to be hit with remnants of Gustav. Last night she said all day...that they had 65mph winds out in her area.

I'm too far inland to care. By the time a hurricane gets up into my area, and past all the hills between me and the ocean, the winds have slowed down to 65 miles per hour, and are more a nuisance to patio furniture and garbage cans than anything else.

Well, we're getting rain here in Baltimore. I'm pretty sure that like 20 minutes ago, my electricity tried to go out. Otherwise everything seems fine.

We loved Fay here in Central Virginia and currently are thoroughly enjoying Hanna. In both cases, we get two days of much-needed soaking rain without the wind and other mess.

Hmmmm well most of the storm is over here. Got a much needed inch or so of rain. The wind got a touch high, 50+mph gusts here on the coast and just a bit of flooding. But otherwise, its calmed down a lot and right now is just a light rain.

We are in the midst of Hanna. I overestimated the winds. I was thinking of a previous hurricane that hit us. Winds aren't high at all around me. It's raining pretty constantly thoguh. Glad I live on a hill :D

I thought Gustav went through already? lol Not sure considering it didn't hit any of New England with any force...

Right now we are getting a hell of a lot of rain, not sure how much, remnants of Hanna. Winds are nothing, we were supposed to get winds between 20-50 mph depending on which station you watched but we haven't really gotten any, we'll see how the night goes...

Hannah has passed. She was no big deal. Just the rain for hours and hours. It's nice and sunny now :D
