Last night my grandmother in law died. She went 93 years, and I knew her half of my life. She lived in the house with us, and was a great lady.

She was born when the Kaiser ruled Germany and Russia was ruled by the Tsar. The First World War had just started. She witnessed all that followed, and at the end of World War Two she fled on foot before the Russian Army, carrying her two small children. She was incredible.

She fighted for two weeks. Then, the last two days, she accepted her faith. She took her farewells, talked about seeing again all of those that are already gone from her family and those who had helped her fleeing before the Red Army. She had to get pain reducing medics, but she was at peace with herself in the end. Then she closed her eyes.

The house is very empty without her.

She sounds like an amazing lady. *Hugs* to you and your family in this difficult time. :rose:

Tarakin,

I stand in awe and carry deep respect for those who lived through and survived the colossal upheavals of the 20th century.

The vast majority in the United States are completely and utterly clueless.

Rest assured, she is at peace.

My thoughts are with you and all the others whose lives she has touched. :rose:

So very sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers. :rose:

Wonderful Lady, as you say. The good times will return rich with memories and her voice will once again fill your home. :rose:

My condolences Tarakin. :rose:

She was truly an amazing person. A life worthy of a novel.

Having just lost my own grandmother in May, I know how you feel and it brings tears to my eyes.

Sweetheart, I can only offer you my virtual arms in a sympathetic hug. My thoughts and best wishes go out to you and your family.

Dear man, I lost my grandmother almost 30 years ago. She took a huge chunk of me with her when she left. I still see the way her eyes sparkled when she spoke to her grandchildren, still hear her musical laughter. Her skin always smelled of bread dough and cinnamon. Her hair always smelled of the honeysuckle.

I miss her every day, but when things are at their worst, it's her voice that comes to me and says, "Stop blubbering. Your gran still loves you."

God, I loved that woman.

She'll always be in your heart.

Thanks for all your kind words. She was an amazing woman. I'll miss her.
