Should Sarah Palin stay home with her kids?

Jimmy Carter? WTF?

Wait, don't tell me. That was in an email you got from the GOP, telling you what to say if people challenged you.

C'mon, DP! When Carter was president I was in elementary school. How about something a little more recent?

When Carter was President I was in the Navy and then trying to find a job when I got out. There were very few!
The days when the military got paid so much we had folks on food stamps. :(
Or tried to do our jobs with one hand tied behind our backs, it was called the Cold War. :(

How about the glorious Clinton years? The first thing that crosses most minds at his name is scandle.
Oh his budget surplus, well, gut the military and cut the intelligence budget ... oh wait wasn't 9/11 an intelligence failure? Oops, might be a connection there.

I kind of prefer; "If you can't stand the heat, dial it down."

Regardless, DP's posts are not masterpieces of communication-- and yours seem to include a lot of fortune-telling, lately.

I can stand the heat, baby.

But I do take personally the comment about "a bunch of liberals" used in that hated way.

It's almost like a racial slur.

I've held back. But I don't have to.

But here in the AH we'll need to keep the heat to just a few threads because we are causing concern among the others. Not everyone here is situated in the U.S.

Good - 'cause it's getting hot! :D

What's wrong with "a bunch of liberals?" What's the "hated way?"

I think "repugs" is a lot more derisive than that, and what would you call refering to some segment of our polity "the tainted meat vote?"

C'mon - most of the people here are "a bunch of liberals," and proud of it! If you can point out where DP said something hateful I'll join your spanking line.

Well said.

Anytime you attach a label (you liberals, right wingers, bush lovers, whatever) the discussion leaves the realm of discussing issues important to individuals, and becomes a personal attack. Names and labels have been tossed about somewhat carelessly. We are all passionate, intelligent, and PATRIOTIC people. I personally vow to make my best effort to avoid personal attacks, and keep my discussion about the issues at hand.

Your facts are disjointed but I'll try.

Military are on food stamps now, and homeless, and losing benefits that Bush has cut.

I wish Clinton hadn't unzipped and then lied about it. He should have refused to answer such a ridiculous question when it was directed to him. Then again, sticking his dick in Monica's mouth didn't cause any deaths.

I don't think you should bring up Intelligence since it was a lack of, and the non-existent WMD that have us in our current situation now in Iraq. Place blame for that squarely at the feet of Bush.

Anything else?

The GOP is proudly in favor of tainted meat; it's a pro-business position. Tainted meat is one of the core values of Republicanism. The alternative to tainted meat is effective federal inspection. Clearly this would be regulation of business in the name of the public good, and by a government bureaucracy at that. True Republicans know what to answer when faced with a choice of that kind.

So referring to a segment of the country's polity as the tainted meat vote is only descriptive.

You need to look at the pay scale for todays military. As an E-5 in 1979 I made a whopping $8800.00 with sea pay and submarine/hazzardous duty pay. My money then might pay the taxes of someone doing the same job today.

As for the time needed to rebuild an intelligence service after 30% or so cuts? We might have it back in another 4 to 8 years. It doesn't come back just because the budget did. Many that left did not return and replacements need to be trained and seasoned.

My dad's retired military after 22 years.

He had all kinds of trouble finding a job in the real world after.

I've seen the pay scale for today's military. The National Guard, the part timers, were the ones really hurt by being called up.

They left families and full-time jobs and took pay cuts to go fight this ridiculous excuse for a war.

I know personally of two families who have gone bankrupt and one that has lost their home due to their spouse serving extended tour. Their jobs were still there when they returned - sort of. Their employers had to give them a job, but not the same job. Less pay when they served, less when they returned.

You can't blame this shit on Clinton.

I'm OK with hot rhetoric, but not OK with saying mean personal things about people here.

DP's not required to pass a communications test to post here, only a civility test. If he sticks his foot in it (like referencing "the intelligentsia" :D - sorry DP), he can expect to be fed shoe leather - and I'll just grin and say "ouch!"

As for me - maybe I'm feeling prescient. I'm not required to pass a psi test to tell fortunes here, and time will tell how I do. ;)

I mostly agree, but would like to refine this a bit. I don't think it's OK to apply a label to a particular individual, but do think it's OK to refer to generic classes of "liberals," "right wingers," etc. There may be exceptions, I'm open to discussion.

For example, I think a characterization about a mainstream political party and viewpoint that's as grossly insulting as the one Cantdog just posted is certainly uncivil and beyond the pale. It precisely fits the definition of incivility - presuming that your political opponent is motivated by a desire that bad things happen to innocent people. In essence, that your opponent is evil.

The question doesnt matter; the outcome matters.

Palin isnt the first mother to unload her kiddies with nannies and boarding schools.

Your comparison with men is as pointless as arguing that women need urinals, too. Or jock-straps. Or a rose should make delicious soup like beans.
What a load of fucking sexist male bullshit! Women have been balancing careers and family for years. Most of us put in a full day of work then come home cook dinner and help kids with home work while the hubbys sit on their dead asses and watch football. The toughest thing they have done all day is carry their balls around. You turds out to get off your ass and give your wives a hand around the house. Ah, yes, you are go geters. You take the wife to work then go get her after it's over. The trouble with Sarah Palin is that she is touch, articulate, and is capable of running the country, too. After all, look at what fine shape the men have left the country in! A fucking pumpkin could do a better job. So, guys.....fuck off !

Of course he can. He can't blame it on anyone else. It's psychologically impossible.

I think - I need some rum.

Before I read any further.

If we're delving into the realm of true insanity I wanna be loaded first.

Hey - welcome, GD! :rose:

First - feel free to ignore that poster you just quoted.

He's a troll, and generally just flings poo about the place.

We ignore whatever he posts. Please don't take what he says as indicative of anyone else here.

:)

The tainted-meat illustration is fact-based, not a characterization. One of the Bush administration's first official memos was sent to federal meat-plant inspectors ordering them not to stop a production line for suspected contamination unless there was "feces with fibrous material visible to the naked eye."

Cant is so brilliant.

Makes you wanna just squeeze him.

I don't see the Republican Party as any more evil than most. People get caught up in ideologies. There is clear logic behind tainted meat. My remark concerned a political party with many millions of members. Not very personal to the people here.

Sorry, it's just sometimes a turd screams for recognition; I'll attempt to do better in the future.

I just didn't want you to get the wrong idea about the people here.

And this thread is pretty heated, anyway.

But JBJ just flings poo.

;)

It's near my bedtime and my dog, Harry Reid, is wanting to go out and if I don't walk he will shit all over everything, so I guess I better say, "good night" excuse myself and go on to bed. I'll visit again when my panties aren't as tight. But you do have a nice room. Thanks for your patience with this first time visitor. Must run; Harry is starting to spin in a circle. ~hug~

In spite of the vitriol of your post, this line is classic. I think I need to visit the General Board more often.

You just accused around 120 million Americans of preferring a particular policy because it will result in more rotten meat and the consequences that ensue, which are innocent people getting sick.

It is perfectly legitimate for you to argue that you think that will be the consequence of a policy you disagree with with; and for them to argue that more federal inspectors is not a cost-effective means to attain a goal that you and they share, which is less tainted meat. That is a civil debate, and you can both be pretty tough and uncompromising in it, too. What you can't do is claim that your opponent supports a policy because he desires innocent people to suffer.

Yes, it's nearly midnight for me, as well.

Must go to sleep -

Time enough to fight tomorrow.
