Inexperienced with a pyl question

Running the risk of sounding stupid I was wondering:

What the heck does PYL mean anyhow?
As i said I have NO experience and am reading and trying to lean so any help would be nice.

Hi bremerton6, welcome to Lit.

PYL is a kind of catch all term we use when referring to people who practise BDSM in a very broad sense. It saves overusage of forward slashes and means that nobody feels a discussion is specific to one type of person.

PYL = Pick Your Label: dom/me, sadist, top, master, daddy

pyl = pick your label: sub, masochist, bottom, slave, little girl.

Other abbreviations you might see here are things like: -

SSC = safe, sane, consensual - a basic BDSM motto.
YMMV = your mileage may vary
OTOH = on the other hand
IMO/E = in my opinion/experience
OP = original poster/thread starter
FWIW = for what it's worth

I'm sure there are others. There are no stupid questions, we were all new to the site and the jargon at one time or another.

To the OP: the pyl thing was started cause it's easier than typing dom/top/master/sadist or sub/slave/bottom/little girl. And people can be very touchy about their particular label.

I believe, if I remember right, that AngelicAssassin coined the phrase. But I could be wrong, it's been used for quite awhile around here.

I mentioned, years ago, that my sister and I use the code word 'cookie' when talking about orgasms. I'm not real sure how it got to here, but it started with a lot of teasing me.
