Fashion Trends: Welcome to the early 60's!

Made a visit to Bloomingdales today and took a gander at the Fall fashions. It seems that we're back in 1960's--but mostly early 60's. I don't know if this is because of the success of Mad Men, or Obama's "Kennedy-like" appeal.

Here we have a Tiggy look, a beatnick look and a mod look:

I mentioned the return of Moccasins, but it turns out that V.M. was correct--tights and tunics are back as are riding boots.

Pants are going to be more form fitting to go with high boots.

As for dresses, they have the early 60's style--either the puffy girly style or the form-fitting, womanly Jackie Kennedy look--

Skirts are generally just above the knee, though there were a few mini-skirts. There is also that weird high, tunic-like collar that was popular in the 60's for women.

Colors: deep and pretty blues, grays, browns, violet...and the strangest reds I've ever seen. I mean they're really a weird. Not red, not orange, not pink. Kind of a burnt-orange meets pink... :p

I don't know if I'm gonna look good in any of these fashions, but I really like them. Hip, sexy, feminine, worldly, independent...they certainly say something other than pregnant teenager.

Fashion keeps recreating itself and does it with the regularity of Fascist Italy's trains. ;)
 
Actually, I take it back--it's not Mad Men or Obama--I forgot, all the designers probably saw the movie Hairspray, which has it all! Tammy-esque cream puff skirts, Diana Ross form fitting dresses, beatnik/Mod/Twiggy looks.

Yep. They were all influenced by Hairspray.

Those are for squares, man! The Mod cars of the early 60's weren't mustangs or corvettes, they were small European ones.....

Now can we return to 1960's architecture and interior design, please? If I see one more "apartment home" "boasting" slate floors and granite counters, I'm seriously gonna hurl.

Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore, John Steed and Missus Peel, ah the early sixties...back when girls wore dress or skirts or those form fitting pants, pedal pushers or cabana pants. When sweaters were tight and the ladies filled them out. Back when you saw something swaying in front of you with long hair you knew it would be female.

Oh, amen! I hate that look -- not just on me, either. I hate it on everyone, especially the pregnant teenagers.

And, beyond leggings, I actually saw some stirrup pants in a couple shop windows. :eek:

To me a Jag or at least their coupes, I think that's what they're called, says "Incoming!"

I don't know how many times I've nearly been run over by a Jag coupe. I think the money the drivers possess makes them incapable of perceiving the 'little people'.

A Jag V12 I don't fear. I know a real driver is sitting behind the wheel.

yeah, but all these trends have been trendy since last fall. the only new one is moccassins, and those are just damn ugly.
