Is LIT a "Porn" site?

What? I go away for a bit and the thread dies?

And I thought you were so rugged! Poofter!

It's not dead yet!
In fact, I think it's getting better!

So full of EROTICA*!!

*Not porn, despite the Dr's definitions.

In my opinion pornography is sex without imagination, sex handled in a mechanical and uncaring manner. Writers who could care less about the sexual material they're writing or who write out of hatred and negative motivations are pornographers.
Erotic writing is fun, an exploration of topics, a desire to titillate and thrill for the joy of it, as well as a desire to uncover more dimensions of human sexuality.
Writers with a variety of motivations have their work posted here.

I find this interesting. I believe that the only reason you dislike calling it "porn" is because that title has a sense of "wrong" and "taboo."

Were we all raised with the rigid belief that looking at Porn is a sin and therefore we feel "guilty" even now becase... well... we like it?

Saying "Erotica" makes us feel better. It teases our consciences into believing that we are not looking at the wicked, sinful porn.

Pornographic: stories where people have sex. The sex is well described and detailed. The plot sometimes not so much.

Erotic: stories where people have sex. The sex is well described and detailed. The plot sometimes not so much.

Well, I'm already going to the 2nd level of Hell for my "lusty" behavior. Therefore, I'll call it porn, but if I ever told my mom, I'd say "erotic fiction" because she thinks sex is sinful. :cattail:

So, is Lit porn or erotica?

Welcome to the AH, KerryAllan.

You make excellent points. To me porn is the expression of the negative side of sexuality, the motivation of a writer to hate, to debase. It wasn't too long ago that writing about gay sex was considered wrong, taboo & pornographic. Now gay sex per se is viewed by many as just another manifestation of human sexuality.
Porn is the motivation of the writer/artist. Literotica is simply open to stories. It's not free of pornography nor does it appear to encourage it.

I was raised a Catholic and I understand well the geography of Hell, the broad plains of torment reserved for those who indulged in the sin of reading about sex, of looking at sexual imagery. Luckily I'm a Catholic no longer.

I resent that, and your previous post. I write porn, and there is no hatred in the stories I write about men and women and unicorns and Zoopians having sexual fun. I certainly don't hate or try to debase the people I write about.

Sorry, obviously the word "porn" has great value for you.

well... in that case!
Would you like to come "upstairs*" and view my "erotica"?;):D

*in the visual artists corner

Sure, lead the way. Hahahah... really, you are cracking me up! :D

But, since I don't find it to be "porn" so much as "erotica" I can already say that I've visited it... and rather liked the views.

And, yes, for me it is the negative connotations that the word "porn" suggests... and there is a fine line between that and erotica... but to me they are separate. One I find to be distasteful (sometimes offensive to my senses/sensabilities) and the other, perfectly normal and sometimes even a delight. I also agree that since by definition, it is based on a person's tastes and opinions, that there will never be a final answer on the differences.

(But I still don't tell anyone I write erotica, porn, or smut, or that I willingly read it. Not so much that it is none of their business as it would embarrass the shit out of me. )

Wow. That's quite a loaded comment, iisn't it? Especially as you hardly know the poster to whom you're making judgments.

You bring your own background to this conversation, the thought that porn is a negative thing. But it's just your opinion. Your opinion is markedly different from mine, and perhaps many others here.

This topic, porn/erotica, has been discussed many times before in the Author's Hangout. Do a thread search and you'll see. It has been discussed with great seriousness, however this thread is not one of those.

Words, in themselves, have no value for me. Porn by any other name is still dirty stories. I enjoy writing them, and the certain amount of praise I receive for what I do. With a few exceptions, I write about the participants reveling in their sexuality, with nobody being hurt. :)

I call it porn, not erotica, because I don't consider it to be "Literature". I don't follow the supposed rules for writing "literature". I have no plot to speak of, no character development and no artistic value. I just write stroke.

I apologize for my comment to you Boxlicker. Pontificating has always been my downfall.

Yeah, who can discuss anything seriously with a talking penis, even one that reads? :D

hahahah... nice... but he's so cute! (I wonder where the reading glasses go?)

Oh... just remembered... hubby says that you are never to refer to a man's "parts" as cute... it is not cool... sorry Throbbs   I meant your av is so totally huge, as you can see by the size of the tree. lol
