I can't remember the last time I was drunk when I was in the Forces one thing it taught me was to hold my drink I could drink anyone under the table but now it's not worth the hassle or the money although I rarely got hangovers. I can enjoy myself now without needing to be pissed up to the eyeballs and I know what I am doing butttttttt saying that there are one or two things I might find I needed dutch courage to try again!

I need to be around no one first thing in the morning. E-dub usually just makes a pot of coffee and leaves me alone. He knows I'll be sweet if he gives me an hour or so to come back to Earth.

I have a big, big cooking job. The boys are coming for dinner tomorrow night and I committed myself to making spring rolls, shrimp tamales, crab cakes and blueberry pie. I could've made the ice cream to go with the pie, too, but I'm not that crazy. I'll be around to bitch and offer Bistro samples.

I don't drink any more, but I always drank a lot of water during the day if I knew I would be drinking that night. I would drink a lot-- 6-8 mixed drinks. I never had a hangover after I started drinking water during the day.

Here's a little piece of wisdom I picked up during my drinking days. Never drink Everclear straight. I learned that the hard way. I had larangitis for a week.

I almost never drink Annie, but I can drink a lot of the hard stuff straight (scotch, tequila, whiskey, you name it) and hold my own. And not be especially hung over the next day. Same with beer (though I never really liked beer much). Wine and mixed drinks will fuck me up though. And Champagne! Champagne (the drink not the poet) is a dangerous thing for me.

I think I have a recipe around here somewhere that calls for those. But it's for Seven Seals Temporary Omnipotence Powder and I'm afraid if I make it, it might work.

Also, getting hold of the snake's breath and the Tony Curtis toenails has been a problem so far.

As Hommie says, the biggest reason for hangover is dehydration, and water does the trick. Now not everyone plans as well as LadynS, but we all should be drinking water every day. But when we don't, I find that slugging a quart of water before I go to bed--aided by 1500 mg of acetaminophen, is just the ticket. I can't remember the last time I was hung over...wait...I can't remember yesterday...but really, this is--has for years been my hangover-prevention routine, and it works for me.

And Ange, I'm the ice cream king. If you want a recipe, I've got it, and probably tried it. Since I gave up drugs, ice cream has become my substance of choice.

Here's a little piece of wisdom I picked up during my drinking days. Never drink Everclear straight. I learned that the hard way. I had larangitis for a week.

I have less than fond memories of that rot-gut swill! I bet you felt like you needed a new asophogus and stomach lining after slugging that shit back.

In a restaurant I used to work in, we used Everclear to make bubble sugar. The finished product looked like hard candy, but it would come out in very random patterns and shapes. We used it as a garnish for one of the desserts.
That is the only good thing I can say about EC.

Everclear is a brand of grain alcohol, that will bring you quite closer to your religious affiliation, or prompt your belief in prayer, if you don't already have it.

And this, coming from a girl that can funnel with the best of 'em.

For what it's worth, here's my tuppence.

If you are doing heaving drinking (or are sufficiently crazy to boost while doing ecstacy) then about a third of your hydration intake should be a [fill in the name] sports drink.

Such activities engender a greater than average number of trips to the privvy, and you lose a lot of potassium that way.

Water alone can result in an evening ending rather abruptly with electrolytic shok and a trip to hospital.

Should you be unable to stomach sports drinks, eat a banana for every sixteen ounces of water and chew a calcium carbonate-based antacid, such as Tums.

Lets' keep the merry in eat, drink and so-on.

Take it from a former paramedic who's lived in more than a few deserts.

I've got some Poteen I tried that straight nearly blew my head off!! How about a story of what we used to get up to in the RAF ... One scenario would be that one person would buy the drink made up from whatever concoctions he could think of and the second person had to drink it some rotters used to put vinegar in !! Another would be traffic lights I can't remember all the drinks that made the colours except the green would be creme de menthe one of the guys actually turned green and had to be rushed to hospital with alcohol poisoning then when he recovered he was put on charge for self inflicted abuse!
