So the other day I was asked why I ride. I had to stop and think about it because this was an honest question and deserved an honest answer.
Yes I could have used the stock answers. The freedom it gives. The feeling of being in the breeze. Being a bit of an outlaw if even in ones mind. Being different. The saving of money on gas.
They also asked about the risk, and yes there is risk involved in riding. I could have told them about accepting responsibility for myself and my actions. How the risk of riding is lower than that of crossing the street in some cities.
I thought about all of the answers I could give and yet I didn't give them. I fell back on the honest answer that I enjoy it without trying to explain it.
Hell, how can you explain something you truly enjoy? I know I've tried to here on a couple of occasions. Somehow I don't think it can be done.
Maybe it's akin to the old question of trying to describe a rainbow to a blind person. You can teach them all about the refraction of light and it's different wavelengths but you can't describe just how it looks.
