That seems to be something said a lot over here in the UK. I have never heard anyone but a person from here say it unless they hung out with a person from the UK and picked it up. Then again they could just like colorful phrases that they have read somewhere.

I will say this... they probably reacted heatedly to your first post because of how you seemed to jump in like a lion ripping a zebra apart. Maybe just a little bit less venom.

If you can't get a hold of Microsoft word you can get openoffice for free off the net. I use that to post all my stories. And I'm sure you really don't want to read mine. I can attest to the fact that my grammar sucks. But I do paste my stories in from openoffice and it seems to go okay for the most part.

Oh and obviously there are some who do not know the meaning of being an author since if you were one you would take personally things about your writings as they are an extention of you.

By any chance did you happen to mean 'extension'? Just I couldn't find the other in the dictionary and my spell checker is screaming at me for trying to quote it.

And that statement darlin is probably not the best way to get most of us on your side. I'm an author yes and my work is an extension of me. I might not be up to the standards of some but I still pop out the odd good thing that I am proud of and has published. Some of us are in the learning process so you may yet see something you deem non-worthy. Everyone has to start somewhere. That does not make us unsuitable as authors, nor does it mean that we do not know the meaning of being an author.

Hope you get your stories sorted and they post without to much trouble.

Hey TXRad, I was born in Texas and raised here but I spent alot of time in the UK and have family here from there so yeah I tend to pick up their slang. lol

Oh and sweetsubsarahh when I made the author comment in my recent post I was refering to the fact that the other person had said something to the effect of how I shouldn't take it personally. I think all authors take personally things said about their work if they are passionate about it no matter if it is a published novel, a work of history or a story on an errotic writing site.

Don't get me wrong please. I have enjoyed my time on Lit. It has proven fun and useful. I posted on here because I thought something unfair. It was a rant. I didn't post on here to put down a person like the reply I received in return. I didn't post on here to tell someone off and put them down like that other person did. Of course I did defend myself and my position but I had a right to after that very rude first responce.

So really... this was quite informative.

I didn't "put you down" in any way. Was I a smart ass? Absolutely. I do that as easily as breathing, but I never put you down.

If that's what you want, however, I'll be glad to accomodate you. Yes, I'm a bitch and a half, and I'll never deny that, but nothing irks people more than someone new coming in here, attacking Laurel and Manu (I've been here a damn long time), and then assuming that their story is so fucking perfect that there couldn't possibly be anything wrong with it - it has to be the fault of the checker.

Learn some humility. Realize that no one, including you, is anywhere close to perfect, and next time you assume something about me, realize that you just may be making yourself look foolish.

I actually have never posted on here before but I just had to voice my outrage on one subject...

I have submitted several stories on this site and have had very good reviews from readers and other authors alike.

Recently I submitted the first in a long series of a story that I hoped to showcase on this site only to have it rejected with the offered reason of PUNCTUATION????? I have read many many stories on here that either could not pass a fourth grade test or the author knew nothing of spelling let alone grammer.

I write my stories in Notebook and so therefore must copy and paste them into some other format to spell check. Yes, I do spell check. Often when I recopy the corrected version and paste it into Literotica's submission page it comes out all double spaced or just wonky on it's spacing. I find it very very tough to believe that this is a valid reason for rejecting a piece of work that reviewers on other places have already commented on as excellent.

Believe me, if I was handed a valid reason for my story being rejected I would take that reason's explanation and work on my story to correct whatever was wrong. However in this instance I find it insulting that something like the computer's automatic spacing to be a "valid" reason for rejection.

Come on... whoever reviews stories for submission... please keep in mind that this is computer generated text and not a grad school doctorate thesis.

I chose this site to post my writings because of it's vast collection of varried stories and it's good community of writers. Now though... perhaps a competitor deserves a second look as a place to take my stories and my readers.

You indicate that the rejection might really be for an "off" format rather than a punctuation problem (I think the story screening device sees format issues as punctuation problems). If you want to have someone take a look at it to see what might be the problem, PM me and I'll give you my e-mail address to send it to. If it's a format problem, there may be nothing at all wrong from your punctuation--but it could still be a problem. It's the author's responsibility to subject the story in the form that the Web site can post it, and they give several options.

Ok, so as the one-upmanship ping pong has faded down, let me adress the first post:

Let's assume your story was rejected on a technical point - faulty spacing, and not actually punctuation mistakes (happens to the best of them - except me of course since I'm perfect). Ok. So fix it up and resumbmit. Why is it the end of the world?

And maybe much worse written and punctuated stories have made the cut. So? The system is not infallible. Literotica is a great site with a huge reader base and the perfect place for amateur writers to publish their stuff. Partly because there ARE standards for submitted stories. But as far as system quality and service level is concerned, it's far from perfect.

But you get what you pay for. And with all due respect, as long as you don't pay for it, any sense of entitlement seems kind of silly.

If you take your work too personally, you are going to get in the way of refining your craft.

Ego is good, to a point. And if you are only writing for pleasure, then the rest of the world can fuck off and you can keep things exactly how you want them.

But if you intend to get professional about this, you do need to develop a certain amount of emotional distance. The cliche about killing your darlings is a cliche for a reason.
