Did you read some of the other contest stories? Did you actually read Starrkers 1020 word story?
Did you compare the winners story to, say, I don't know the third place story?
Forget my stories, I only had 16 stories entered in the contest. I'm just a hack who never expected to win. I only wrote those stories for the "real" contest, the Survivor contest.
So, who's turn is it next to win? I really hate suspence. Who is going to win the Nude Day contest?

Did you take a "minute" to read Starrkers 1020 word winning contest story?
Now, tell me, what can you take from that to apply to helping you write a better romance stor?
If you can answer that one simple question, then I will understand why Starrkers 1020 word How To story on How To write a romance story won.
Moreover, did you read some of the other stories in the contest? Now, what made her story better than many of the other "longer" and "real" stories in the competition?
Do you think that this How To story was not based on the story at all but (egad) based on the popularity of the writer?
Actually, it was Starrkers who devised this devious plan. She told me to bash her publically to write that she had sagging tits. She said that if I did that, then everyone will fell sorry for her and vote for her story. She said that she'd give me fifty bucks if she won.

No, sorry, you are wrong. I am well aware that I will "never" win a contest here other than the Survivor contest and even that is speculation on my part.
I'm a writer, a real writer. Moreover, I'm a reader. I've read many of the stories in the contest and there were many stories that should have won that contest instead of the 1020 word story from Starrkers.

How did you manage to keep all that information down to only 996 words? I'm in awe. I can't even be that concise when posting messages to this board. And second place was not even 800 words. It's just amazing to me.
As soon as I finish puking, I mean, writing this, I plan on writing a whole bunch of 750 word stories and enter them in the Survivor contest but...I can't.
Whenever I try and write such a short piece, it grows. My story is seldom done. I envy those writers who can write stories and essays that win contest without even writing 1,000 words. You have a talent that I will never possess, brievity. It is remarkable. You are gifted and I am but a mere hack.
Ah, sour grapes. Maybe it is so. If only I could write like Starrkers and all those glorious contest winners who win over and again. Maybe, one day, years from now, I'll write one such story, a 751 word gem that will win a contest. I can only try and try again. Thank you for showing me the way.
