I Think I'll Go Here On Vacation

Woooowww!!!

beauty + thrill = simply incredible

I want to vacation with you guys.

New entry in my to travels list :)

I have been thinking about taking up rock climbing too, we have a wall in the gym.

WOW...very beautiful, but way to scary for me thanks. I think I'll go somewhere else.

:rose:

Is this were I mention my fear of heights? Not that it's ever stopped me from climbing before...but man some of those rebar and cracked cement paths look pretty extreme. I'm all for giving it a shot tho. I'll be the one in the back giggling at how scared I am and clinging like a fly to the cable attached to the wall

I always want to jump. Not suicidally, just want to fly off. As a result, high places scare me. Falling isn't the problem, it's restraining that urge to leap and see if I can miss the ground. I really need to take up hang-gliding or something.

lol. I think I'm the same way. I've done a bit of cliff-diving, sky diving, mountain climbing, etc. There's something very thrilling about being up high. Some of those shots looking down at the water made me wonder if it'd be possible to jump down and actually make the river or not...

I've always had a fear of heights. I used rock climbing for years to control it and I'm looking forward to getting back into this summer. The bad news is that my harness is too small for me and now I will have to use a fudge harness till I get back into it. Bummer!!!

So anyone else wanna go?

It will be one of the best things you can ever do for yourself.

:)

I went today. Didn't make it all the way up though.

It was weird, at first their was no problem, it was easy, just clime right. About half way up those things you hold on too got real tiny, but managed to keep going. Their was one particular part, tiny holds and my feet weren't under my body, so my weight was support by my forearms. I thought I found a good new foot hold, but as I reached up with my hand I felt my weight shift back. That made me mad, felt like if it had been real I would have died from that height. I kept going though, and then with about 3 feet to the top I felt my weight shift back again, and then I decided reaching the top while dieing twice doesn't make sense. So I came back down... next time.

However my instructor said he was impressed that I got knot right on my first try,, if he only knew.

*smiles* I'm proud of you, hun. Most first timers don't get that close to the top.

You keep referring to your weight shifting back. As you more than likely know (b/c you are a very smart man) that is your center of gravity pulling you off the wall. The best way to keep that from happening is to keep your knees low, close to the wall and turned in. NEVER push you bum out; that is where your weight goes and the further you push out from the wall, the more you're gonna peel off.

Also, at the crux of the climb, (where the holds got smaller and more difficult to find) that is when you need to do your best to keep all your weight on your feet, not in your forearms. Many men have a really hard time climbing for that simple fact. They want to mantel (climb using only their arms) rather than rely on the largest muscle group in the body- the legs.

Remember to keep your hands as dry as possible by using chalk and to breath solely thru your mouth (I know I can't do it well either) How did your shoes feel? Did you get the 9 size? I'm sure you were top roping with your instructor, so you need to remember that so long as your belayer has hold of the rope (which, they ALWAYS do) you are not gonna die. A belayer has to go through a testing and training to be allowed to do so esp in a public gym. You are more safe hanging on that wall than you are walking down a busy street. Try to remember that and have fun.

I hope you try it again. :)

Oh I’m not afraid off dieing, I was just thinking back on that video link in this thread, if I fall from their I’m like a bug on the windshield. So I don’t want to fall even when it’s safe.

By the way you where way off with the shoes, size, turns out 11 fits me nice a snug.

Thank you for the pointer though, I definitely see what I was doing wrong now. I am really flexible so I was pulling my legs way up, which results in pushing away from the wall when getting up on them. Got to take smaller steps. I felt the burn on the underside of my forearms too, they where bulging out like crazy , never seen em like that before. Breathing was no problem, I was sweating when I got down, but nothing more.

Hands dry, got to ask the instructor about that.

Thank you for tips, I will definitely try them. Will probably go again on tomorrow, Saturday.

Oh and I asked about how many routs up their where, and they said currently their where 17.

HAHA, an 11? You are the one who told me you wear a 9.5. I can only go on what you tell me mister.

I'm glad you had fun. You'll have to tell me how Saturday went. :)

OMG pet! i watched that video completely, and it felt like my heart was coming up thru my throat!

i will pass on that vacation definitely!

9 1/2, is what the shoe says

-shrugs-

I didn't go Saturday, or Sunday, and doubtfully today. If I get a fully awake moment at 6 tonight I will go.

I got a lot of studying to do though. This weekend I basically melted into the couch and got stuck. The second the sun come sup its over 100, and it takes 5 hours after sun set for the air to cool to sane amount. I need to fix the AC in my car and get some

You know what, I'll go tonight, just feel like it.

So how was climbing last night?

I didn't get to go last night. I probably won't get to go again till Wednesday, but I'm looking forward to it.

Didn't go :(

Well I did, but it was closed because they where redoing the routs.

Which sucks because now I have officially not made it up that 1 route

Wall: 1 Me: 0*

*Soon to change

I will be going Wednesday too, right after my kanji quiz, stress relief.

I got my pack all ready to go- I will be on the wall before 7 and climbing the hell out of it all night.

The rout was still up, so I get that point out of technicality.
