I got a call from a guy friend - we'll call him John. Good idea, since that's name. Anyway, he called to say he hadn't called in a while, which I acknowledged.

He was calling me from the hospital where he had been admitted after having had a heart attack yesterday. He is 48.

That's the second friend of comparable age to have a heart attack in the last 15 months or so. They both have survived, so far.

I don't care for drama, but it does make a body wonder.

I knew a guy who passed away at 32 from a massive coronary.

Of course he chain smoked, drank beer like a fish, did coke and pills like pez.

Bad news...he should have tried going on a hike once in a while.

*hugs* it really makes you think when someone you know ends up in hospital, doesn't it?

This guy is off the drugs and booze, and he has a good relationship with his family. He has, however, been working too many seven-day weeks and smoking too many Marlboro Lights.

He said he's going back into the lab and out of the field, and that he's now off tobacco for 36 hours. I think he'll be on a regular regimen of exercise very soon.

Thanks, Sweetie.

Yeah, it really does. I have an extremely busy next couple of days coming up, but he and I are going to get together early next week.

I am also seeing getting sacked last week in a whole new light.

Yeah, my friend passed out in front of his ex wife at her house, and went into convulsions.

I think it was a combination of stress from his breakup, and lifestyle of eating mass amounts of fast food, and being a party animal.

He was a good guy, though, fun to hang out with anyway.

You're welcome. :rose:

It can really bring perspective to your life, as horrible as the events may be. It makes you remember what's actually important in life.

John's a good guy who had been working too hard and taking too little time for himself, I suspect. That, and the Marlboros and the spare tire around his middle.

I think he's heard the warning call. I believe he will be a changed man.

Well, he lived, so it's much less horrible than it might have been.

He's getting that in perspective, he told me. We'll talk more about it next week.

This cat under my chair is letting me know that my priorities need to be to pet her head. It's all about her, you know.

I smoked for years and have come to look askance at smokers, especially the young ones. What are they thinking?

For that matter, what was I thinking when I started, all those years ago?

The same thing every guy thinks:

"Maybe I will look "cool" and get laid".

:p

Of course it's all about her. *grins* Cats are always centre of attention!

And, whilst we're on the subject, I've never ever smoked and I'm so glad of that fact.

Never starting makes quitting a piece of cake then. Good for you, Dear.

The Siamese cat and I share ice cream.

He yowls at me until I let him have some.

I may have to start giving him his own bowl.

Exactly. I watched my mum&dad struggle to quit when i was a kid, I think that really put me off it.

My mom quit while dad was in the hospital with COPD from smoking.

We kids, rocket surgeons that we were/are, soldiered on, smoking like chimneys for another two decades.

Well, damned near three, actually.

do I need to pin you down?

Do I need to be pinned down?

I have a busy weekend. Another friend's dad is in the hospital - they think that may be cancer. I have to fulfill a commitment of his tomorrow and Saturday.

I am quite the busy beaver here. You may have to run a bit to keep up.
